I have had several stories that I have loved...up until a point. I think a lot of authors get new ideas and try to incorporate them into a story they are already writing instead of creating a new story or they get so relaxed into the universe they have created that they completely exhaust any real creativity and simply place the characters into new scenes. This leads to stories that drag on forever.
This is true of original stories and fanfiction. Whatever the cause I can't help but feel saddened when a good story goes bad. So many have jumped the shark time and time again. I have sent comments to a couple of authors asking them to review their stories and ask themselves where the story has been, where it is going and what progress the story arc has made. One person chewed me out, another thanked me, and the last hasn't gotten back to me.
I guess I shouldn't judge as I am no longer able to write (a subject which saddens me to no end) and have no great influence in any community because of my frequent fandom leaps. I still wish that certain people could find it within themselves to wrap up a story or at least give it a rest until true inspiration strikes.
Sorry for the rant,
AR
P.S. I love the stories that all of your creative minds dream up and am constantly astounded by your ingenuity. Keep it up. This is by no means meant as discouragement. Love and hugs to all my favorite writers!
