So here's the quick report on the Slay-A-Thon fundraiser for Maka-A-Wish on Saturday. First of all, the event was a huge success. We raised over $14,000 and granted at least 2 wishes so that was huge.
I personally raised $342. Steph raised $40 but we put all the donations we raised, except for her personal donation, on her sponsor sheet since her employer does corporate matches. This way we were able to bring in an extra $362. Between the two of us, we were able to bring in a total of $762. Not too shabby. Thanks go to
ozlady for her very generous contribution. I never did thank her properly.
The auctions were okay this year. Nothing really exciting except for a prop check from Angel in a frame with a CoA that I got outbid on by the guy running the auction. I did get a really cool
bust though. I may have paid a little more than I could have gotten it for, but it came with an autographed 8"x10" of the guy who played Dracula on Buffy and the money is for the kids. I also wound up with 5 new action figures I didn't have.
Steph wasn't able to go again this year, mostly because she has the next two weekends off for Wizard World and GenCon and she had inventory last night so I went with our friend Kristin. We left the event at Dave & Buster's in Chicago at 12:30am after leaving the house at 7:00am, got back home at 2:30am and unloaded the car. This is when we realized that Krisin left a bag with some novels and an action figure on the counter at the parking structure across from Dave & Buster's. We tried calling, but they were already closed. Kristin called again in the morning, called information for the number to the parking structure, got ahold of someone who called the guy who was working at the time, and told her they still had her stuff! Can you believe it! Stuff got left behind in a public place in Chicago and it didn't walk away. Things were good. Kristin drove back to Chicago to get the bag before heading back to Milwaukee and her 4 hour drive home.
Overall it was a good day. I didn't get a parking ticket for a meter that had expired 45 minutes earlier, the team I captained for trivia came from behind in the last round to win the competition, and I got to watch an entire day's worth of Buffy and Angel. It's been so long since I've seen a lot of the episodes that I kinda forgot how much and why I love the shows so much. Now I kinda have the desire to start at the beginning and watch them all again.
Another update later today. Got lots of stuff to do to get ready for Wizard World and GenCon. I can't wait. It will be really nice to get away for a few days. Until later...
