Thrift store fun

After I worked a bunch this morning, I figured I should head out before the storm hit (which is here as I type this). My plan was to get a library card, as we've lived her 9 months and I've just been lazy about getting one. When we first went to the library last June or July, I didn't have my new ID card, and I didn't have anything with my current address on it, so I couldn't get my card then. My husband figured if I was going to the library today I should see if I could get him the newest book in the Kim Harrison series, White Witch, Black Curse.

Before heading to the library, which is across town, the girls and I stopped at St. Vincent de Paul. I figured it's been a while since I've been in there, and sometimes I can find some good stuff. My daughters always hit up the clerk there for cookies. It's a small town, and my aunt takes the girls in there a lot when she babysits, so the girls are pretty well-known.

First I hit up the craft section as always. They had an owl crewel embroidery kit, and a Halloween cross stitch pattern with a skeleton. Then, I headed to the other side of the store, where I think I found the most awesome thing ever. It was a Mickey Mouse Disco record box, which was full of a bunch of those read-along record books. In it there were books for Gremlins, He-Man, and a bunch of old Disney ones. Oh yeah, and one for Return of the Jedi, too. I don't have a record player, but the books will be good for the girls, and I can try to track down a record player later.

I also wanted to see if I could track down a 50s style dress for my class reunion in June. It's not a requirement to wear anything like that, but I'm in the mood for shocking my classmates by dressing up--in school, I was all about the goofy T-shirts and jeans, although I was prom queen and I did dress up then. I managed to find one that I think will be appropriate, and it was only $1.50. If not, it's a dress I'll wear anyway :).

I did find my husband the book, and got some for the girls, since I want to try to teach Seluna how to read soon. She recognizes her name and Illyria's, but not much else right now.
