It's official. The Railroad team is getting special uniforms. For the first time in nigh on 6 years, the team gets to wear the traditional RR garb: 2 pairs of dark blue overalls, a lighter blue shirt, a red bandanna, and a gimpy hat. The overalls are all made as pants, but if we so choose (and seeing as it's summer, I doubt anyone will hesitate), we can take in one pair to get cut down into shorts, free of charge.
Unfortunately, not only are these uniforms mandatory, but each of us has to put down a $50 deposit on these uniforms, regardless - with an additional $5 for the gimpy hat. Reason being that these are specially ordered and made just for us. (There are even nametags sewn onto the articles.) Luckily, if they're still in good condition when the season ends (or if we quit), we can return the costumes and get the money back in our next paycheck. On top of that, whoever doesn't have a locker has to get one in the event that he/she might get sent over to a different unit, and has to change uniforms. (I'm lucky, I already have a locker - and I use it regularly.) So yes, we do have to keep the generic GA uniforms we have now; we just have to have a place to keep them in case we need them again. Stupid, I know. Then again, it's a theme park. Not to mention Railroad has always gotten the shaft in the past, so we just deal with it. Either that, or we bitch, lol.
Here's the funny part, tho. The woman who's making these things goofed up - she assumed that the team, like the ones before that wore special costumes, was made up completely of guys. I can imagine her shock when she got an updated list and suddenly realized that there were two women on the team. So now Chanda and I get to wait til tomorrow to pick our new costumes up. >< Damn people and their assumptions.
Anyway, I don't have to start wearing this uniform for a little while yet. Although everyone on the team has to get theirs by Monday, our Supers will let us know when we all have to start wearing them. It'll be interesting to see how things go now, though - the reason we're given such a hard time normally (by both the Park itself and also customers) is because the Railroad doubles as a scenic tour and transport service. I guess this was just the Park's way of trying to make it up to us, by letting us know how "unique" the Railroad is from the other rides at Great America. -_-
But eh, I'll tough it out. Just a couple more months to go, after all. ^^
