Summary: Kangin isn’t busy anymore. But his place as SJ’s Appa is taken.
Roles of a Strong Father
Saturday, afternoon.
Kangin found himself resting on the couch on the living room in their dorm. He can’t clearly remember when was the last time he lay there to have a long relaxing rest. His body surely missed it though. Months, so many months of endless activities, filming, variety shows, radio shows, sleepless nights, no rest, Kangin felt empty yet relief for his busy schedule subsided for a while. He was aware that being an artist wasn’t that easy like most of people thought. He loves the fame he gets, the exposures, and the popularity his activities gave him that was why somehow, he felt sad for not having any activities for now. There were activities still but he wasn’t loaded anymore. But one side of him was thankful that even for a while he can be able to rest.
The dorm was quiet too. Other members were out while some were resting on their rooms. Kangin declined his idea of watching television because he wanted to keep the silence and peace filling the whole dorm.
He was almost asleep when the loud voice of Ryeowook broke the silence that was kept for long. Kangin got up and immediately went to the room where Ryeowook was at.
“What happened?” Kangin asked the moment he entered the room.
Ryeowook, who was sitting on the bed, stared at him with his most lonely eyes. “My cellphone broke.”
“How did it break?” He sat near the sad man for comfort.
“I accidentally sat over it and it broke.” answered lonely Ryeowook.
“Let me fix-“ Kangin was cut off when Ryeowook instantly stood up at the sight of Yesung on the door.
“Yesung Hyung! My cellphone broke!”
Yesung patted Ryeowook’s back, smiling at him. “Let me fix it then. Let’s go.”
The two went out of the room, leaving Kangin alone. Kangin just shrugged at what happened and headed out later on to go back to his interrupted rest.
He was at the living room when another kind of noise disturbed the dorm. This time it was coming from the door of the dorm. Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae and Shindong entered while chatting loudly of some things happened when they were gone. Kangin greeted them back home.
“Where have you been?” He asked them.
Eunhyuk was the one who answered him, “We were in a variety show. It just ended.”
“Did you eat? Do want something to eat?”
“No, thanks.” It was Sungmin this time. “Shindong hyung already treat us. I love the food on that restaurant. Let’s go back there sometimes, neh?”
“Of course! Next time, it’s my treat! Eunhyuk would never treat us!” Donghae said, pouting at Eunhyuk.
“Yeah, he’s rich but do not spend too much.” Shindong said.
“I’m poor, ya’ know.” Eunhyuk defended.
“Whatever, Hyukkie!” Sungmin stepped in to his room to look for Kyuhyun. Shindong, too, went away.
Donghae and Kangin were left at the living room. Kangin sat beside Donghae while Eunhyuk just came out from the kitchen having two strawberry milks on his hands.
“Eunhyuk, sometimes you have to spend for your friends too.” Kangin stared at him with a small smile.
“I’m poor now, Hyung.”
“Liar!” Donghae instantly answered.
Eunhyuk playfully kick Donghae. And Donghae threw a pillow on him. The room was full of laughter after a while. Kangin laughed along with the two.
“You want strawberry milk?” Kangin looked at Eunhyuk. He was about to nod when Eunhyuk handed one strawberry milk at Donghae. “You should be thankful, Hae. I only share my strawberry milk to one person!”
“Thank you, Hyukkie!”
Kangin only watched the two laughed together. Somehow, he felt out of place and awkward. But that feeling instantly vanished when the door opened once again, revealing one guy who brightened his feelings instantly.
“Eeteuk hyung!” Kangin called with a huge smile on his face.
Eeteuk responded with his heartwarming smile. “Hi, Kangin!” He sat on the other couch near Kangin. It was then Hangeng showed up from his room. “Hi, Hangeng!” Eeteuk greeted the Chinese one.
“Where have you been?” Kangin asked him, the smile remained on his face. He can’t hide the smile whenever he was talking with Eeteuk. It was just so natural to him.
“I went to a variety show. My back really hurts!” Eeteuk massaged his shoulder.
“Let me give you-“ He was cut off again when Hangeng stood behind Eeteuk.
“Hyung, I’ll massage you.” Hangeng offered that was instantly accepted by Eeteuk.
“I really need this.” Eeteuk said, feeling relaxed with Hangeng’s massage. “And oh, I forgot to buy some cosmetics a while ago. I could ask Heechul to accompany me tomorrow. We can go shopping together.”
Kangin’s smile vanished as he only watched the two together. Eunhyuk and Donghae were playing on his other side.
At that very moment, Kangin felt something was really wrong.

It was near evening when everyone got in to the car. Their schedule for their performance at Music Core will start later on. Already on their outfits, they were ready and hyper for the coming performance. It was their goodbye stage performance. They feel excited but of course sad.
Kangin sat at the back near the window, Shindong beside him. Again, he felt something was wrong. When he looked forward, he felt the loneliness being away from Eeteuk, who was busy and happily chatting with Siwon. He wanted to talk but Shindong was busy chatting with Sungmin and Kyuhyun. No one he could talk to. Eeteuk was laughing while he was pouting.
While on their way, Kangin remained silent while he stared out the window. Whenever they all ride together, whether in one single van or they would divided into two which was what usually happened, he would always sit beside Eeteuk or sometimes it was Eeteuk who will follow him. But what happened then was Siwon took his place. And it wasn’t only his seat was taken from him.
Before, whenever something was broken, they would ask his help first especially Ryeowook and Kibum. But what happened a while ago, Ryeowook ran to Yesung for help. Ryeowook ignored him and Yesung took his place.
Before, every after their activities, he would treat his dongsaengs to a restaurant because he knew they were tired and hungry from work. But what happened a while ago, Shindong already treat them. Sungmin, Eunhyuk and Donghae forgot him and Shindong took his place.
Before, Eunhyuk only offered his strawberry milk to him. Even Donghae was ignored. Eunhyuk said before that he admire Kangin that was why he wants to share his strawberry milk to him. But what happened a while ago, Eunhyuk offered Donghae one instead of him. Eunhyuk never admire him anymore and Donghae took his place.
Before, whenever Eeteuk feel tired, he will ask him for a massage. Eeteuk once told him that he was good in it because his hands were relaxing. But what happened a while ago, Eeteuk asked Hangeng for it instead. Eeteuk forgot him and Hangeng took his place.
Before, Eeteuk would ask him to accompany him whenever he would buy things for himself. But what happened a while ago, Eeteuk planned to ask Heechul instead. Eeteuk really forgot him and Heechul took his place.
Something was definitely wrong!

The next performer was them. They were already waiting near the stage for the current performer to finish the song. Nervous can’t hide from them as they all do their own habits of getting rid of their nervousness.
Kangin stayed at the corner, watching Eeteuk making other members hyper. He was calming all of them but him. But he tried to ignore it. He should concentrate more on his performance.
After a while, their group name was called by the PD.
They gave out their best during the performance. It was their last better make it one of the best. And they did. Deep inside them they feel proud and emotional because they had a lot of fun during the promotion of their album.
The show ended. They all went to the backstage. Eeteuk was still crying because of sadness. Kangin saw him and was about to near and comfort him when Eeteuk went to Donghae and others while they comforted him. Standing at the middle, Kangin thought of everything happened since that morning. And the thought of Eeteuk ignoring and forgetting him made him burst out his feelings.
“YAH! WHY DO ALL OF YOU TOOK MY PLACE?!?!” He shouted.
Everyone stared at him with questioning eyes. Eeteuk suddenly stopped crying and stared at him with surprise.
“What are you talking about?” Heechul asked after a moment of silence.
“I’m Super Junior appa! I’m the only one capable of that place! No one can be appa beside me!” He searched for Ryeowook. “You, Ryewook!”
Scared, Ryeowook pointed at his self. “M-me?”
“Yeah, you! Whenever you broke something, ask my help first, you got it?!” Not waiting for a reply, he pointed at Shindong. “You! You are not allowed to treat them unless I say so! Eunhyuk! You can share your strawberry milk to anyone but you should include me!! Hangeng! You are not allowed to give Eeteuk a massage! That’s my work! Heechul! You can’t accompany Eeteuk to shop! Siwon, you are not allowed to sit beside Eeteuk during rides! When he cried, I will comfort him before you all do! And you Eeteuk, you are not allowed to ignore me!!” He ended his speech with a pout.
Everyone didn’t change their way of staring at him. They were all confused of the sudden speech of Kangin. Some didn’t know if they will be scared or will laugh at Kangin. But among them, Eunhyuk broke the silence first.
“Wait. It’s Father’s Day tomorrow, right?” Eunhyuk asked.
“What?” Kangin hyung looked at him.
“Yeah, it’s father’s day tomorrow. And Kangin hyung is Super Junior appa!” Sungmin agreed. He went closer Kangin and smiled at him. “Happy Father’s Day, Hyung-I mean, Appa!”
Other members sigh in relief, knowing that it was the reason behind Kangin’s speech. They all got up and one by one they greeted him.
“Happy Father’s Day!”
“Happy Father’s Day!”
“Happy Father’s Day!”

Kangin remained shocked on his place as everyone walked out from the room, heading to their cars. After a while, Eeteuk went closer him, holding him on his waists as they followed the others out.
“You were all ignoring me the whole day.” Kangin pouted.
Eeteuk looked at him. “Maybe they were use of your absence already. They are now use to seeking help from others. And I do too.”
Kangin face saddened.
“Don’t be sad, Kanginie! You remind me of a father working hard for his family. And Umma is proud of Appa.” Eeteuk smiled at him.
Touched by the Eeteuk’s word, he hugged the petite man tightly enough for him to breathe and for him to make him feel his love towards the other man. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
Kangin grinned at him. “You sound so mother-like. You know, you can really be a mother. The only thing missing is your pregnancy.”
“Shut up, Kangin!” Eeteuk laughed at Kangin’s thought.
“No, really. I’m telling the truth.”
Kangin wrapped his arm around Eeteuk shoulder while Eeteuk held him on his waists. And together, they followed their ‘children’ with happy smiles on their faces.
That was definitely the happiest day for Kangin.
