Summary: Sungmin’s a nerd and has always been bullied in school ever since he was still a freshman. Now a sophomore, nothing has changed until Kyuhyun came along, another nerd and who also became a victim of bullying. What changes will Kyuhyun make in him?
PART 1
Sungmin came back to school the following week and he was bringing plans to reverse his current school life. The night before, he contemplated about his strengths and weaknesses, about what he can and can’t do. He can’t be argumentative like Kyuhyun but he can recite in class, he can perfect a quiz and exam. Unlike Kyuhyun, he is physically fit so he decided to do something about it. Quitting music club was saddening because he liked music a lot and wanted to pursue something with it. But it could wait. He could always go back whenever he wants. This year, however, he decided to join the taekwondo club. The captain was more than willing to have him in the group. The captain enjoyed seeing weak people become stronger.
Through taekwondo, Sungmin learned how to defend himself. He learned the techniques to make your opponent beg at you for dear life. The process, of course, took weeks for Sungmin to gain all the knowledge he needed. In between those days, Seunghyun continued to bully him, but he let the bullshit to do what he pleases to do. This won’t last long.
Another strength Sungmin has is being as fast learner. That was why it only took him four months to learn almost everything he needed to learn in taekwondo, and it was like the sport was naturally part of him which he just discovers now. He began to love the sport, too. By the end of the month, the captain chose him as one of the players who would compete in the nationals. Many were surprised because he was a newbie, but he still had a lot to prove to them yet. He will take this competition as his chance.
“Congratulation, Min!” Kyuhyun cheered and threw petals above him, as he walked out from the gym.
Sungmin laughed, “I haven’t won yet, Kyu!”
“Eh? But I know you would kick asses in the national.”
“Want me to start with you?” Sungmin playfully glared.
Claps of hands from somewhere interrupted the happiness of the two. From a corner, Seunghyun appeared with his gang, smirk on their faces.
“Such a happy couple.” Seunghyun said. “And you learned taekwondo just to defeat me, Sungmin? Pfft! What a waste of time.”
Surprisingly, Sungmin didn’t feel the fear, anymore. But he didn’t want to fight Seunghyun or rather, he didn’t want to waste his time on him, anymore. So he grabbed Kyuhyun’s arm and they walked away, ignoring Seunghyun.
“You bastards! Come back here!” Seunghyun shouted.
Sungmin stopped walking, turning back to Seunghyun’s direction. “Why not you come here?”
Insulted, Seunghyun ran towards Sungmin, clenching his fist for an attack. Kyuhyun stepped backward to avoid being an interruption to Sungmin’s fight. Seunghyun threw his first punch, aiming it towards Sungmin’s face. But he dodged it by moving down, placing his palm on Seunghyun’s chest. With all his strength, he pushed Seunghyun’s body around and slammed it to the nearest wall.
Seunghyun yelped in pain. He quickly regained his conscious. But before he could even blink, a fist crashed on the wall just right beside his left eye.
“Let me tell you the new rules here, you piece of shit. No more free lunch for you every Monday and Friday. No more free assignments and exams for you. You will leave us alone, and don’t you even dare go fifty feet near us. Don’t let me see your face again, or I’ll crash it to the point of no surgery can ever fix your disgusting face.” Sungmin said with voice dark and deep. He glared at Seunghyun, who was already sweating that moment, “Got that, you shit?”
Eyes wide, Seunghyun nodded.
“Now run before I break your legs.” He said and that was enough to make those guys sprint away.
“Wow, Min, that’s scary.” Kyuhyun said, surprised of how Sungmin improved.
As response, Sungmin stared at him, eyes wide like a lost puppy. “Really, Kyu?”
“So cute. I’m proud of you.” Kyuhyun ruffled his hair. This time, Sungmin felt happy with it.
The nationals came right away. Sungmin being the best player of their school was able to reach finals. For what surprised everyone in school, Sungmin won the taekwondo competition, bringing back a gold medal and a big trophy to school, and also the pride the school lost before. The captain nodded proudly for having chosen the right guy for the competition.
The teachers finally recognized him and his excellence in studies. Sungmin had never felt this confidence and pride in him. It was new and nice.
Kyuhyun was standing alone in the hallway in front of the Principal’s office, waiting for Sungmin (because the Principal was so proud she wanted to congratulate Sungmin personally), when a group of five girls walked on the same hallway. They didn’t interest him until he heard a familiar name.
“Is this Sungmin?” one of them said, pointing at the picture on the school’s newspaper.
“The nerd Sungmin, you mean?” said the other one.
“Yes, that’s him. He won the taekwondo, right?”
“But…” Then all of the girls stared at each other before they chorused a “He’s sooooo cute!!!”
Kyuhyun knitted his eyebrows. They just noticed now?
Shaking his head, he approached the girls and asked for the newspaper to see what news about Sungmin was. Apparently, it was about his winning in the nationals with his picture posted on the top. In the picture, Sungmin, without his glasses, was smiling, posing a piece sign to the camera. Cute, indeed. He thanked the girls, before going back to his place.
One afternoon, before they parted ways, Kyuhyun shoved a box in Sungmin’s hands. Sungmin stared at him, eyes questioning.
“They’re contacts, Min. Wear that tomorrow instead of your glasses, alright?” Kyuhyun said casually.
“Why?”
“Just do it, okay? You’ll see.” Kyuhyun smirked.
The next day, Sungmin had to walk alone in the hallway because as what Kyuhyun reasoned out, he’ll be waiting at their classroom. Just like what Kyuhyun instructed him, he wore the contacts instead of his thick glasses. He felt lighted without his them. It was refreshing. He sighed and just walked in the hallway.
Oh boy how could a simple walking on the hallway become so hard? Sure he experienced having eyes stare at him before but this time it was different. Everyone was staring at him with surprise in their faces like they were amazed or something. He heard students saying.
“Is that Sungmin?”
“You’re kidding, right? He’s…”
“Oh my god!!”
“He’s so cute, gasssh!”
And was that giggles?
What drug did these students take? Me? Cute?
He blushed like crazy, hurrying his steps. At the end of the hallway, he saw Kyuhyun leaning against the wall. He sighed in relief. He needed to tell Kyuhyun what was happening. It was so weird!
When he was close enough, Kyuhyun pushed himself off the wall, walking towards him. He was about to open his mouth to talk and tell his friend all he heard and how crazy they were when Kyuhyun suddenly cupped his face with his palm before pressing his lips with his. Sungmin’s eyes grew wider and for a moment there he feared they would come out. His breath hitched, air trapped in his lungs. Sungmin froze, his system stopped functioning.
Kyuhyun…is kissing him. Those pretty lips he always adores, he could taste them now. It’s so soft…and…and…he’s in heaven.
When Kyuhyun broke the kiss, Kyuhyun chuckled at his flushed face, tracing the pinkish circles on his cheeks with his thumb.
Wait…did just Kyuhyun kiss him in school in front of the students?!
“What was that for, Kyu? W-we’re in public!” he can’t help but panic.
“Just letting them know what’s already mine. That’s all.” Kyuhyun smirked at the direction of the students who were suddenly quiet at seeing something they never expected. He wrapped an arm around Sungmin’s shoulders and dragged him away from them.
They were gone, and they never heard the giggles and yells of girls of “THAT’S SO CUTE!!”
KyuMin Fanclub was formed the next day.
