[The device turns on to show Mary in the kitchen wearing an apron that's dusted in flour. For a moment she's just mixing up some batter in a large bowl before this song kicks in. Mary sings along with it to the end before she looks up at the weird phone.

She moves to a large sheet and starts putting on small globs.] Anyone want a cookie? I'm ( Read more... )

[ Ah, that scene somehow conjures up a deeply buried memory. It's as though something bittersweet is gently brushing against his heart. There's a peculiar smile ghosting upon his lips and when he replies, his voice is unusually quiet. ]

It's been years since I've watched anyone bake.

[There's happiness in her voice even as the song continues playing in the background.]

I love to bake. I did it quite a bit back home.

[ Though she knew nothing of him, her positive reaction was still met with mild surprise. Perhaps because she was so close to what he knew of his earlier life and yet, so far. ]

It's rather obvious how much you love doing so. It shows in your work as I'm sure it does, in the final result.

[So far no one's really warned her about specific people here but that doesn't mean Mary is oblivious to everything. Still, she's willing to give everyone a chance.]

Really it's the people that eat them that make it all worthwhile. Would you like to try one?

[ He blinks, suddenly unsure of himself. This wasn't like him nor was this the way he had thought the conversation would progress and yet ... Two sides seemed to be struggling within him and sure enough, the one that ached for a taste of home eventually won.

-For now, that is. ]

If I may.

Please do. My name is Mary.

[So far she likes him, but then again Mary was good at getting along with people at first. And insert apartment details here so he can find his way over.]

I'll look forward to it.

[It's just a normal apartment like all the others.]

[ In reality, the journey from his own apartment to Mary's hadn't taken long - a good ten minutes, if nothing less. However, it seemed longer due to the internal struggle within him which had begun upon the very first contact. He had no right to request or accept anything and besides, it was foolish to skirt so close to home when the fact remained - it was something he could never truly have. However, during his time spent in the City, he had become rather adept at finding ways to humour himself. So why not?

Arriving at her door, he rapped his gloved knuckles smartly upon it and waited to be granted entrance. ]

[But Mary isn't like most people. She knows that there are bad guys and creatures that creep in the dark looking to hurt people and she tries so hard to avoid it and have a normal life. If this was a normal city Mary would bake things and take it over to the neighbors as a gift but instead she choose to offer it up to the others who got dragged here.

Once the knock came she was very prompt to answer it seeing as how she'd been expecting him. Most of the flour has been dusted off and her repeating song is nothing but background music now. She gives him a smile before stepping back to allow him to come in.]

Please, come in.

[ His gaze lightens considerably as it comes to rest upon her face, her smile chasing away his brooding thoughts rather swiftly. He silently complies, closing the door gently behind him. No sooner does he step inside, he's enveloped in a comforting smell of freshly baked cookies. The pang of homesickness that hits him is almost painful. ]

It was kind of you to invite me over.

[ He follows her into the kitchen, sharp gaze drifting over his surroundings and softening immediately as it rests upon items he remembered from his own kitchen, his own mother using. It seemed as though he was remembering another lifetime. The entire place had a warm, lived in feel to it. A stark contrast to his own place. It was more than enough to soothe his nerves and still his soul for the moment. Moments like this were rare and rarely found. ]

[It's very light and airy in the apartment. She may not have been here long but she had spent most of that time fixing up her apartment the way she wanted. A lot of the windows are open as well to get in a fresh breeze. There's a plate with three cookies waiting along with a glass of milk on the counter where a bar stool has been place for seating.]

I'm happy to have over company. This place is so quiet compared to my home.

[Mary wiped her hands on her apron as she watches him take in her apartment. Nothing was ever going to live up to her home in Kansas but this would do for the time being.]

[ Genesis takes another moment, gaze flitting lazily over the place and trying to commit to memory what he'd seen in another lifetime. And if he had allowed himself to be honest, this was probably the closest he'd ever come to feeling like this. As though he was reaching for something that lay just beyond a sheer lace curtain.

He lingered by the barstool, waiting for Mary's word. Although it was obvious she had set it all up for him, he had been raised as a gentlemen. It went against everything he had been taught if he were to merely plonk himself on the stool. ]

It is? You must have had a busy home. Though that's not so bad. As long as those dearest are close by ...

[He'd be welcome over anytime he needed a sense of home. Mary's place will always look like this unless a curse has done something terrible.

She gave a wave to the chair. Since it seemed as if he was waiting for something Mary figured he must feel a bit uncomfortable with what to do.]

Please, have a seat and enjoy yourself. Make yourself at home.

I had a four year old son and a six month old baby so there were always things to do.
