[A female voice comes over the network and it's a mix of anxiety and stubbornness.]

John? Honey, are you here? I tried calling the house but I couldn't get through. I'm pretty sure this isn't Lawrence but I don't have any idea how I got here. I've found my way to a fire station if you get this. Please tell me the kids are all right.

[Yeah one pause of 'oh damn' is gonna take place before he responds to this.]

Ma'am...your son isn't four and also you're going to be stuck here for some time.

[It looks like this device does call out to more than one person.]

He was the last time I saw him. I can't stay here, I've got to get back to them.

You nor the rest of us have the ability to leave this place under our own power.

Listen, time basically freezes at the point you were taken from so there's not much you need to worry about. The Dean you remember will be still be there when you return.

It's just a city, how can it possibly keep us here?

[There's almost a frown echoing in her voice.] I've never heard of anything like this being possible.

This place has a barrier which is pretty much locking us in and some rather nasty things out.

Not to mention the belief of this place actually holding a will of its own.

No one can figure out what kind of barrier it is? [Wait, nasty things? She's familiar with nasty things.] What kind of things is it keeping out?

[There's a thoughtful pause at that.] I'm not sure if I can believe that the city has a will of its own. Now something having control over the city is something I could think.

It's the only explanation as to the random people being brought here.

To answer your first questions, we know that it has a habit of retaliating if its attacked and the things that the barrier is keeping out are harpies and probably alien forces that would enjoy killing us all.

[Mary wants to say more on what could bring and keep people here but she left the hunter life behind her.] I suppose.

[Okay, she's having a hard time keeping the disbelief and amusement out of her voice.] Aliens? Like little green men sort of aliens?

Seeing those would probably be considered a blessing.

If they'd be a blessing then what could possibly happen around here to make them seem that way?

Ever see a gigantic embodiment of living death rising from the ocean?

[There's a long serious pause.] No, I can't say that I have. Is that really the kind of stuff that goes on around here?

Apart from varying curses, self-styled gods that enjoy being pains in the ass, and the standard world-ending threat every six or seven months? Yeah.

[If Mary was an average human than some of this information not only completely impossible but also down-right crazy.] Sounds like this place can get pretty dangerous.
