Chapter 25:

[Saturday Evening]

[Nishikido Mansion]

Ryo watched as the maids and butlers of the house ran around, short of breath, trying to make sure everything was perfect and presentable, making the whole mansion light up royally and fancily.

“Ryo-sama,” one of the maids approached him, he turned to the girl, “Mistress wants to talk to you,” she informed. He nodded as he headed to his mom’s room and knocked on the door.

“Come in,” the woman’s voice sounded from inside. He pushed the door open and strolled towards his mom’s side.

“You wanted to see me?” he asked.

“Yes,” the woman smiled brightly, “I heard that the Kamenashi siblings are your friends,” she asked, still looking at the mirror checking on her outfit.

“Uh huh…” he nodded lightly.

“What’s your opinion of them?” she asked him.

“It’s strange that you’re asking,” he said.

“Well… I find it’s strange that you became close friends with people you only just met,” she smiled at him.

“Ok, not that look,” he averted his eyes, “I’m not interested in Midori, ok?” he assured his mom.

“Oh really?” she asked playfully.

“No way, she is too childish for me,” he stated his point, “and also she’s Pi’s girlfriend,” he added.

“Oh… so our Pi-chan likes the Kamenashi’s daughter?” she said in surprise.

“Shoot,” he cursed lightly, “please don’t tell Jin or he’ll go crazy or he’ll break,” he pleaded, “Not to mention her brother.”

“I won’t, Ryo,” the woman laughed heartily, “I’m curious,” she turned to him, “who are you really interested in?”

“Huh? Since when that you’re interested in my affairs?” he narrowed his eyes.

“Well, you’re going to graduate soon, so it’s better that you have a girlfriend by now, but you have shown no interest in any of the girls around you, the last I heard that you rejected the daughter of the Watanabe family. She is a very sweet and suitable girl,” she reasoned.

“Are you spying on me or something?” he asked unsurely.

“Not spying, darling, just looking out for my youngest,” the woman chuckled, “anyway, I have heard about your bet with Pi-chan, I hope that you keep your word tonight or I won’t want to see you again for a while,” the woman threatened lightly.

“You’re kidding?” his eyes widened in shock.

“No, I’m not.” The woman repeated, “Aya-chan is a nice girl, I would love to have her around, but if you screw up I won’t be hesitant in disowning you, my boy. You need to show at least some interest in something other than work,” the woman said every word clearly, making a clear threat to Ryo. The boy blinked at his mom’s words and couldn’t believe that she wanted him to get killed by Jin.

“Fine,” Ryo said defeated, “but I’m not sure if she will say yes, just for your information,” he added.

“Ok, see you later,” the woman waved her hand to dismiss Ryo. The boy walked out of the room with a sulking face.

“Now I definitely have to confess, too much pressure,” he said lowly.

“Ah… Ryo-sama,” one of the butlers called, “where should I put this vase?”

Ryo observed the object and then pointed at the corner to an empty stand, “that would be best, since the vase doesn’t give out the same feeling as the whole thing, it should be hidden somewhere unseen,” he said as the butler followed his directions.

He observed the party hall one last time, making sure that everything was intact and would shine dazzlingly in everyone’s eyes. This was only a birthday party, he thought in his mind as he checked on the display of the table and the position of the other small details.

[Yamashita Mansion]

“Yamashita-sama, would you turn to the right a little bit?” the girl requested, blushing at the handsome man in front of her. Pi followed the girl’s request and turned to make the work on his suit easier.

Pi looked at his suit in the mirror, satisfied at the texture of the material. Hm… what will Midori be wearing tonight? He wandered off somewhere in his mind as the question popped up. He didn’t notice the stylist was calling for his attention.

“Um… Yamashita-sama,” the girl tried again, but with no success, she waved her hand in front of him and then shook him lightly as her last option, which finally pulled him out of his daze.

“What is it?” he asked dumbly.

“We’re done with your suit, sir,” the girl informed.

“Ok, thank you,” he smiled widely at her, causing the girl to blush deeply.

“Still as charming as ever,” a woman stepped into the room and smiled at her only son. Pi turned to the woman and smiled brightly at her.

“And you’re always the beauty queen, Mom,” he complimented her.

“Aw… my baby knows how to sweet talk, tell me how many girls have fallen for those words?” she asked jokingly.

“Hm…” he put his hand on his chin pretending to think, “quite a number, but only one that actually didn’t fall for the trick,” he chuckled.

“Oh… someone caught your eyes?” the woman turned curious.

“Nuh uh… you’re not going to poke into my affairs, Mom,” Pi shook his head at his mom, trying to avoid any further deep conversation.

“AW… but darling… I want to know,” she said childishly to her son.

“I’ll tell you when the time comes,” he informed her, then turned around to grab his suit jacket and headed out.

“Such a secretive child,” the woman smiled as she watched the boy disappeared. She turned to the stylist, “don’t blush too much or he’ll ask for a new one,” the woman warned the stylist lightly, reminding her to keep her fangirling low.

“Sue-san,” Pi called out to the head maid, “has my box arrived?” he asked.

“It’s on your desk in your study room sir,” the woman replied quickly.

“Thanks,” he said gratefully as he bolted up the stairs into his study. He smiled upon seeing the pink box and opened it to check the product inside. “As expected from Mikimoto,” he said, smiling while taking the box with him as he strolled down the stairs. As he waited for his parents in the lobby he kept an eye on the clock every second.

“Impatient, ne,” his mom said teasingly as she was escorted down the stairs by his dad.

“You took too much time,” he accused.

“Why in such a hurry? You were never like this…” she then eyed him, “or… is the girl also going to be there at the party tonight?” she hit the main point right on, causing her son to avert his eyes to hide the light blush on his cheeks.

“Whatever, now let’s go,” he dragged the pair out of the house and into the limo, the older woman laughed at her son antics, as his dad shook his head at his wife for loving to tease their only son.

“That pink box must be for the girl,” the woman whispered in her husband’s ear as she eyed the pink box in her son’s hand.

“How do you know?” the man asked questioningly.

“Well, Yuuki’s favorite color is blue, and I don’t think our son is so careless as to send a pink box as a present wrapper,” she reasoned logically. Her husband nodded in agreement at the solid point.

“You two can stop your little gossiping now, I’m not deaf, you know,” he rolled his eyes at his parents. He couldn’t believe that they still thought he couldn’t hear them in the narrow space of the limo. He glanced the pink box as a goofy smile crossed his face.

“Uh oh… he’s deeply in love,” his mom whispered again, he sent her a narrow eyed glare, causing the woman to laugh heartily at the childish glare. It was too much fun to tease her son.

[Kamenashi Mansion]

“Midori, are you ready?” Kame called from his room as he put on his black inner vest.

“I don’t know what to choose,” Midori pouted in her room, Kame shook his head, grabbed his black suit jacket and headed to the girl’s room.

“What color do you have there?” Kame asked as he stepped into the room.

“White, silvery, red, black, or pink!” She smiled widely at the last color.

“No pink, Midori, you’re representing daddy tonight, so no red or pink,” Kame pointed out.

“Damn, my two prettiest colors,” she pouted lightly.

“Black or white sounds good,” he pointed out the two dresses on the bed.

“Hm… black then,” she said nodding, “because this is like a business party even though Ryo is our friend, but our parents are not friends with them, so it’s better be formal,” she reasoned.

“It’s good that you’ve learned something,” Kame ruffled his sister’s hair.

“Not my hair, you might mess it up,” she complained childishly.

“Your hair is short anyway, so it won’t take that long to style it back,” he grinned widely.

“No, I’m not going to spend another 30 minutes trying to keep my hair intact again,” she said determinedly, “do you know how hard it is to keep the ends curling perfectly without messing up the layers?” she pointed out.

“Ok, ok, ok, princess, stop whining and put on your dress already,” he chuckled as he sat down on the chair nearby.

Midori turned and narrowed her eyes at him, “What?” he said.

“How can I change if you’re sitting here?” she said obviously.

“Oh, come on, it’s not like this is the first time I’ve seen you naked, we used to take baths together when we were younger,” he replied carelessly.

“Yeah, when we were YOUNGER! Now get out or I’ll kick you out, which one do you choose?” she asked fumingly.

“Alright, I’ll head out first, but don’t take too long, we both need to be on time for this,” he reminded her nicely as he stepped out.

Kame skipped down the stairs and met Lisa on the way. A middle aged woman in the business suit came to him.

“Young master, the limos are here,” she informed.

“Ah… Ok, thank you, Mary-san,” he thanked the woman as she turned on her heels.

“Ah… Mary-san,” Kame called again as he remembered something, “who’s going to be Midori’s secretary tonight?” he asked to make sure that his father chose the right person.

“It’s Ray-sama,” the woman replied back.

“Ah… Ray,” Kame nodded. He then waved to the woman and headed into the kitchen area.

“Lisa-san,” Lisa turned to the boy’s call and smiled brightly, “have you sent our presents to the Nishikido Mansion?”

“That’s already taken care of, young master,” the woman replied politely.

“Ok… I think Midori might need help outing on her shoes, you know she might twist her ankle with those dresses of her,” he sighed as Lisa laughed and headed to the young girl’s room.

Kame waited at the front door for his sister, laughing at the whining and constant shrieks coming from the girl’s room. He chuckled knowing that his sister was rushing around the room. A few more thumps upstairs and the girl came down in her perfect black dress with lace ruffles at the end. It fit perfectly to her body, shaping curves and a one-inch single band helped cinch in the silhouette of the dress. The dress was perfectly in sync with her black low platform shoes, with ruffles on the side.

“Cute but not too cute,” Kame commented after a moment of observing his baby sister’s dress.

“Handsome, and clean, I like that,” the girl walked up him and dusted a thread off the neck of his suit jacket.

“Ray is going to be your assistant tonight,” he informed her.

“Nice, then I won’t be lost and bored by those business people,” she laughed lightly.

“Remember Midori, we’re not there for fun. It’s business after all,” he reminded her again.

“For sure, I’ll be on my best behavior.” She smiled.

“We’re going now, Lisa,” the two called out the head maid and waved at her.

When the two stepped outside, they headed to their respective limos and waved goodbye to each other. Kame entered his limo and drove off first while Midori was checked by her cousin, Ray.

“The outfit suits you well,” he commented as he checked her from head to toe, “Hm… I don’t see any blue,” he frowned.

“Blue? I have to wear blue?” she asked, surprised.

“Not that you have to, but it’s the unwritten rule; the host’s favorite color is blue, so to show our respect, we must wear something in blue, plus it’s the host’s birthday,” he explained to her.

“Mou!  I don’t have any blue with me, plus we will be late if I run back to get my necklace,” she pouted lightly.

“No wonder Uncle requested for me to go with you,” Ray shook his head, “I knew that you would forget that important fact, so I brought something as a present for you,” he smiled as he showed her the small box. Midori quickly opened it and smiled at the navy blue silk band with silvery glitter creating a rose along the end.

“It’s pretty,” she chirped happily.

“Ok, turn around, I’ll put it on for you,” Ray instructed as the girl followed, he quickly wrapped the band atop of the girl’s head and neatly tied the band into a nice bow and turned it, creating a nice hair band on her hair, the navy blue helped to match the outfit that she was wearing.

“You’re so skilled, I didn’t know a lawyer knew how to tie hair band,” she smiled widely.

“Hey, don’t underestimate me, after all I come from an artistic family, just that I don’t have much interest in it,” he smiled as he opened the door for her and the two entered the limo to drive off.

[Akanishi Mansion]

“Jin!” Ayame whined while walking down the staircase into the foyer, “Which necklace?” she held up two.

“Wear the one with the pearls. You already have the diamonds on your bracelet, your hair…thing, earrings, and ring. You don’t want to risk outshining Aunty tonight, do you?” He sighed, “It’s kind of depressing I know that now…”

Ayame frowned and looked at the necklace he picked but then nodded, “Will you?” she lifted it up again.

Jin smiled and took it from her before gently closing the clasp once he had it around her neck.

“Thank you, now I need to run up and put this back in my jewelry case,” she turned to move up the stairs when the doorbell rang signaling the driver had arrived, “Shoot I’m running super late!”

“I’ll take it back, miss,” a maid smiled and bowed.

“Thank you,” she handed the necklace off and grabbed a light jacket and stopped in front of a mirror to examine her appearance.

She smiled, she looked perfect in her dress. It was a floor length Grecian draped dress, with a slight keyhole, brought in at the waist with an embroidered band. She decided that getting the white with the icy blue embroidery and beading was the perfect decision. She adjusted the her hair ornament, the platinum comb with diamonds and sapphires pressed into her loose bun of hair where long curls flowed down.

“Aya!” Jin complained, “You do this every time we have to go out! You look beautiful now let’s go or we’ll be late! The party started at five-thirty and it’s nearly six ten now!” He tapped his foot, adjusting his white inner vest and icy blue tie that, “contrasted nicely against the black dress shirt,” as Ayame had put it weeks before. Her silver stilettos just made everything that much better, even if you could barely see them.

“You know we’re never to arrive early to a party… unless the main event starts right after but no one in their right mind would plan that,” she rolled her eyes before grabbing her purse, “Alright let’s go…”

“Where’s the present?” Jin asked.

“AH!” Ayame exclaimed and turned to run out of the foyer.

“I had them deliver it to the Nishikido mansion, it would be too much for you two to try and carry in…” Akira stopped her from running out of the room.

“And that’s why I shouldn’t be in charge of these sorts of things,” Ayame sighed and stopped in front of the mirror again.

“Let’s go!” Jin groaned, “We’re already late and we don’t want to keep them waiting any longer!”

“You’re just annoyed cause I’m keeping you from drooling over Kazu-nii in a suit,” Ayame countered.

Jin frowned, “I totally wasn’t thinking that…” he trailed off and realized for the first time that everyone would be dressed up, including Kame. He could only imagine how… sharp and handsome the other would look. He shook his head, “What the hell Jin?”

“Well you are now.” Ayame smirked, “Now let’s go,” she linked her arm with his and skipped out the door.

“I’m sorry, but you can’t even walk in flat shoes… and you can skip and run in those…. Four inch tiny heels?” Jin scoffed.

“It’s because I’m amazing,” Ayame smiled sweetly as the driver opened the door for them, “Thank you.”

“Did you double-check how our present… looked? I mean we had to ship it to get ti here…” Jin asked nervously.

“Yes I did, and you did too,” she rolled her eyes, “Stop worrying it’s in perfect condition. Better condition than pieces kept in museums for years,” she shuddered lightly at the thought of museum kept paintings, “No it was always in a private collection and perfectly cared for. Plus I sent the private jet and one of the assistants to retrieve it on pains of professional ruin should it get damaged.”

Jin shook his head, “sometimes I think you’re too mean to them.”

“We paid… I don’t even want to think about how much we paid for that, if it was scratched or damaged in any way I’d have his head.” She responded lightly, “Besides I gave him a very nice bonus…”

“Is everything finalized for Monday?” Jin asked absently.

“Everything has been finalized for weeks… you do have your suit, right?” She mumbled, even though she had been there with him to buy it.

“Of course I do,” Jin answered immediately, “I even have the pink inner vest, pink tie, pink pocket square, and pink handkerchief. And my cufflinks and tie-pin have matching pink etchings. You do know I’d only do that for you,” He grumbled.

“And it’s one of the many reasons I love you,” she rest her head on his shoulder, careful not to muss her hair, “Besides, one fourth of the money raised is going to breast cancer research, you have to wear the pink. You agreed to it too! I offered to let you wear grey for brain cancer.”

“Yeah but I wanted to wear pink because of aunty…” he trailed off.

“And that’s so sweet of you,” she smiled lightly.

“So you’re wearing grey?” Jin asked.

“No, white for…” Jin cut her off.

“Bone cancer, right?” He frowned, worried he had got it wrong.

“Yeah, I’m glad you’re starting to remember these,” she grinned.

He shook his head but decided not to respond as they pulled up to the mansion, “What do you think the Nishikido family would do if Aunty held her party at their other mansion?”

“The traditional?” Ayame asked, “They’d want to murder her, but wouldn’t be able to do a thing about it whatsoever.”
