Fund-Raising Project for the Habagat Victims Contrary to popular belief, falling in love isn’t exactly a taboo for a Johnny idol. It is neither discouraged nor frowned upon. It isn’t even a dangerous topic to thread onto in the presence of sempais or even the management.
What it is is a topic that’s concealed from public knowledge, hidden from the public view. In a businessman’s point of view, it is to keep them boys a lot more sellable. On a more personal note, it’s to keep their choice of woman safe.
Nonetheless, for one Yokoyama Yu, the falling in love concept isn’t exactly what’s keeping him on his toes. The worry even had little to do with the fact that he’s falling for someone he’s currently working with, an occurrence that seems to have become quite a recurring theme amongst the Johnnys, at least those belonging to their generation, since 2005. His co-idol and co-star in his current drama, Ninomiya Kazunari can personally vouch for it since the guy personally did the same thing in Yasashii Jikan, but only when Hana Yori Dango, and to a later extent, Nobuta wo Produce, came out did the occurrence became quite pronounced.
Mostly, it’s because he, Yokoyama Yu, 26, more famously known as one-half of the noisier members of Kansai-based Johnny idol group, Kanjani8, is crushing on the 17 year old Fukada Saki. And it isn’t technically the age gap that’s keeping him apprehensive in approaching the woman or expressing his feelings for her. It’s more that he, a Kanjani8 ojii-san, is falling for a woman who wasn’t even of age!
And really, despite the ruckus he and groupmate Murakami Shingo causes during variety and talk show guestings, he’s really a shy person.
For a while, he actually tried not to give in to those feelings, he tried not to smile too much when he sees her, not to blush too much when she turns to him for a chat. He really tried his very best to keep things normal. But he soon found out that it was one of those feats he’s not quite successful in achieving. His heart still does this funny jump whenever she enters the room.
It wasn’t that he’s afraid to approach her really; it’s just that he couldn’t seem to quite pluck up the courage to ask her out. Plus, Nino, being the drama’s lead, is almost always around on the set making it entirely impossible for him to make his move without the guy noticing. He’s not ashamed of crushing on Fukada, he just prefers to make his move without the guy making it difficult for him, making a joke out of it, or generally, just getting in the way. He knew the guy for far too long, way back into their junior years, for him not to know that Nino’s certainly capable of doing any of those. Or all.
Which is why he devised quite an ingenious plan of expressing his feelings to the lady.
He sent her notes; nothing inconspicuous, nothing extravagant, nothing too much. It ranged from the simple “Smile!”, “You were wonderful today!” to messages like “Thank you. Just seeing you made my day better!” written on one of those stylish post-it notes Yasuda had shown him during one of their group meetings.
At first, he was actually quite afraid that Fukada wouldn’t notice, or worse, be frightened by the notes he’d attach to her bag, her script, or any of her item he’d get to catch lying around. But a few ninja-worthy moves and a good relationship with the staff and crew of their drama, he found out that Fukada smiles a lot whenever she sees those notes. He even overheard her with her manager talking about those notes where her manager telling her “Don’t be too obvious that you’re getting giddy over those letters,” to which Fukada replied with a blush “It’s just touching!”
The good reception inspired him to be bolder. Well, not that bold at least. And he needed to make sure that he has not yet crossed the stalker border. He sent her messages like “You were seriously great in that scene!”, “So many are getting sick right now, don’t forget to drink your meds okay!” and even “Don’t mind of the misses earlier! You’re still wonderful for me!”
And while hearing of the good results, that his notes had actually made Fukada smile, or hearing her manager say it, she “seems to be looking forward towards those post its”, made him feel happy, it also made him nervous. After all, with the drama now nearing its end, it only means two things: he either step up to the plate and admit to her that he’s her secret post-it writer or forget all about her. After all, he’s not that free to start following her around after the drama ends and he’s heard that she’s actually grown quite curious of who the ‘writer’ was.
And just as Yoko found himself caught in that conundrum, Nino just had to choose that timing to catch up with the situation. Yoko reached that realization when, during one of their 5-minute breaks, Nino suddenly asked Fukada quite a ‘rhetorical’ question.
“Fukada-chan,” Nino called, addressing the woman who was standing across him at the refreshments table, making Yoko, who was then being fussed over by one of the make-up artists nearby, perk up at the honorific he used. “If you had a secret admirer, how would you want him to admit his feelings to you?”
It was a good thing Yoko was leaning against the table then because he would have surely slipped the moment he heard the question. His eyes immediately flew towards Nino though he could not help but dart a look at Fukada just the same. It seems like the woman was as taken aback as he was, maybe even more, judging by the blush that suddenly crept to her cheeks.
“Eh?” was all he exclaimed.
“Not the face to face approach then?” Nino simply smiled, oblivious, or rather, uncaring, of the sudden turmoil of emotions from those around him, particularly Yoko’s who had started to narrow his eyes on the guy subtly. “Hmmm… What if he gave you something like a reservation or a ticket to something and he shows up there, would that work?”
“I-I guess…” Fukada stuttered.
“Okay,” Nino nodded and Yoko would have had enough reason to throttle him already, but then the guy turned to him and exclaimed as though seeing him there for the first time “Oh! Yoko! You’ve got a concert tomorrow right? Jun-kun and Aiba-chan said good luck!”
Yoko could barely stutter his thanks then. Not only was he held speechless by the exchange, he also thought he caught a sly grin on Nino’s lips when the guy turned to him. It screamed ‘I’m up to something!’
He found out that he was right when, a few songs into their concert, Yoko had quite a good look at the VIP area of the arena and saw Fukada there. For a split second before Ohkura thumped him on his back, Yoko realized that Nino had just set him up!
He was almost afraid to show up at work the next day, afraid that Fukada would start avoiding him, afraid that she’d realize that she’s repulsed by him. But when he saw her by the greenroom Nino was sharing with him, she didn’t look quit repulsed. She looked quite nervous actually.
“Fukada-san?” he asked, approaching the woman.
“Oh! Yokoyama-kun!” Fukada exclaimed and Yoko thought he saw a tinge of red color her face. he also saw her tighten her grip on the paper bag she has holding.
“H-hi!” he greeted and was half way through a decision whether or not to mention him seeing her at the previous night’s concert when Fukada beat her to it.
“Last night’s concert was great!” the woman started as she very much tried her best to not meet his eyes. “Thank you for inviting me.”
It was good thing that Fukada wasn’t looking at him because she would have seen the confusion that riddled his face at those words. After all, he did not remember doing any invitation. Before he could say anything about it though, Fukada spoke again, this time, raising the paper bag in her hand to him.
“Uhm, here, I m-made you some b-bento,” she stuttered and before he could say or do anything else but reach for the bag, Fukada turned around and hurried away.
He remained frozen on where he stood and would most probably have stayed there all day as both confusion and happiness and giddiness and amazement fought for dominance inside of him. But then the door to the greenroom opened and Yoko was snapped back to reality when a smirking Nino appeared before him.
Yoko narrowed his eyes.
“What did you do?”
“Nothing!” Nino exclaimed innocently except that Yoko did not believe that. The disbelief was further punctuated when before completely heading out, Nino raised his phone showing what unmistakably is one of their VIP concert tickets with a post-it note, his post-it note, saying ‘See you there! ❤’
He even thought he heard him call “cradle-snatcher!” as the guy marched away.
It took Yoko a full minute to completely recover for him to realize what the guy could had done. Shaking his head, he entered the now vacant greenroom with his head quite abuzz as he took a peek at the contents of the paper bag.
Other than a beautifully wrapped bento, a piece of paper was carefully folded inside.
With his hands slightly shaking, he picked up the note that read:
“Thank you. You don’t know how much you’ve been helping me! - Saki❤”
The words weren’t quite that heartwarming or promising but Yoko still could not fight off his smile as his eyes lingered on the heart after her name. And then his eyes caught something else and Yoko had a harder time fighting back a huge “Whoop!”
Lower in her note, Saki had written what is unmistakably her email address. Yoko couldn’t help but grin.

and sorry if i used quite a bit of NIno... when i saw that he was the lead in that drama Yoko and Fukada Saki starred in, i just had to make use of him.
anyway, i do hope you like the story... if not, please do let me know...
