DISCLAIMER: The only thing i own in this story is the plot... :)
SUMMARY: The PRESENT is the bridge between the PAST and the FUTURE... Mirai left in their past, with their present once again entwining, what would their future entail?
He could practically feel their eyes on him, their worries. He could practically breathe in the hesitation, the alarm, the panic that filled the room in his return from his momentary absence. He could basically hear the questions buzzing in everyone’s minds: “What’s wrong?”, “Is everything all right?”, “What happens now?”
Truthfully, even he doesn’t know. He doesn’t know why and how everything happened, barely even understood what actually did. And while his just concluded meeting included the plans for his, their, future, he’s really not that sure what’s going to happen next, especially to him.
He doesn’t know.
For the first time in a long, long time, Yamada Ryosuke doesn’t know.
-----
“Of course they wouldn’t be holding it over you,” Yabu said reassuringly as the rest of Hey!Say!JUMP gathered around him. Yamada had just finished relaying, in the blankest, most bland tone he had ever used, the details of his meeting with the management.
“Yeah,” Hikaru immediately agreed. “Even with those rumors that started circulating months ago about the two of you, they can’t possibly say you’re connected to this one. I’m glad they saw reason!”
Chinen nodded as Inoo patted his head, Yuto extended a reassuring arm over his shoulder, Daiki smiled his most reassuring smile and Keito nodded at him.
Some part of it actually felt nice. All that support, those reassurances when he knew that the others needed reassurances themselves, it made Yamada feel nice. Just nice though because while they were reassuring him, he didn’t feel very reassured. If anything, he felt confused. Very confused.
Yamada smiled and nodded not really knowing what to say, or if there is anything he should say. No one in the room knew. After a while, he cleared his throat and announced to the room, “Uhm, I need to make a quick phone call, I’ll be back” before his feet carried him out the door.
He didn’t wait for anyone’s response. He didn’t look back.
Both Yabu and Chinen made a move to follow him out but Inoo blocked Yabu’s path and Daiki held Chinen in place. Keito took one step closer to Yuto, ready to stop the guy should he decide to make a move to follow Yamada out too.
“I guess we should let him be for a while,” Hikaru voiced out what the other’s had in mind. Moments later, both Yabu and Chinen made a move to show that they have agreed. Yuto remained rooted in place although his eyes were still on the door.
“Is everything going to be all right?” Keito couldn’t help but ask.
No one replied immediately. And then Daiki spoke.
“It’s all going to be.”
The guy’s voice was strong, but everyone heard the note of worry in there too. They heard because it echoed the worry in their own hearts. But they knew that this is something they really can’t do anything about. So no one mentioned that worry, instead, they each looked at the other and tried to erase those doubts.
Yuya crossed his arms, his eyes looking thoughtful as it was glued to the door. Ever since Yamada’s entry moments ago, he had yet to say a word.
-----
“Why isn’t she answering her phone?!” he couldn’t help but growl.
Anger was slowly gripping him, worry and confusion too, all those emotions snowballing into something monstrous in his heart that it took him all he could to not suddenly shout out loud. Not that anyone would notice, what with his feet finding its way to the rooftop of the studio in a high rise building in the outskirts of Tokyo the moment he left the greenroom.
He tried calling her, sent her an email, left a message but still he did not receive any reply. It just kept on ringing and ringing and ringing until the ringing stopped and the line went dead. He even went as far as contacting about 10 other people who he knew she would make contact with, who she’s friends with, but for some reason or the other, no one gave him any reply. Even Kamiki, who was just as much as his friend as hers, wasn’t of any help when he contacted him. The worst part is that he’s not sure if it’s the usual Kamiki or the guy knew something and is hiding it from him.
“Answer the phone dammit!” he couldn’t help but scream at his phone as the line died for the nth time.
It was only after that did he feel that presence, that feeling of someone watching over him. Turning around, he was almost surprised to see Yuya.
It was just almost but not really, because, somehow, some part of him knew that Yuya would look and react differently from the others in his current situation. He knew that even before he entered the room to tell the others. He knew that even before he realized that during his narration to the rest of his group, it was Yuya who remained so awfully quite, it lingered in the air.
It’s Yuya, who’s now standing a few feet away from him, whose hands were in his pockets, his eyes clouded as he asked in an obviously masked tone “Something wrong?”
“N-Nothing!” he found himself stuttering as he lowered his phone to his side, putting on a relaxed smile he knew he had mastered for quite some time.
“Oh,” Yuya simply shrugged as he approached him, leaned against the wall an arms-length away from him, exhibited a calm demeanor that was not that different from him.
For someone who’s used to showing smiles despite his worries, cheers despite his knees buckling in tiredness, laughter despite his throat catching, Yamada found himself unable to continue his cool façade.
“Nothing happened,” he started blabbering. “I mean, come on! This is me, right? Besides, we’ve known each other for far too long for something to happen! We’re not impulsive or crazy! I mean, I’m, well, I’m not you…” he ended up saying before his voice trailed and he couldn’t continue anymore even before his gaze went to Yuya.
Yuya looked at him, not a tiny bit affected with him implying that he’s impulsive and/or crazy. And as his voice trailed to a stop, Yuya started in a disturbingly detached but knowing tone “But something did happen.”
It wasn’t even a question. It was a statement.
Yamada stared at him, looked at him the way he had never looked at the guy. For them, for him, Takaki Yuya had always been this extremely talented but entirely childish member of the group who shouldn’t really expect to be serious or focused. But right there and then, he’s seeing a different Yuya. A serious Yuya. A focused Yuya. A mature Yuya.
“It’s not like that,” he started, remembering more clearly than ever before the situation the older guy faced all those years ago when his relationship was revealed and his girlfriend took that sudden leave from the industry, remembering ever more clearly that if there’s anyone, anyone in their group really, anyone who knows him that closely, who would, at the very least, know what he’s going through, it would be the guy.
“I mean, what happened to you before. I mean, she’s popular! She’s made a name for herself! She’s very well-known and very well liked! She’s got projects and sponsors lining up for her! Besides, it’s not like we were… It’s nothing like what happened to your g-… I mean, what happened to you guys years ago could not be the same!” he exclaimed.
Their agency might be that powerful but her agency could and would stand by her too, that much he knew. But as his explanation continued, he was no longer sure if it was for Yuya’s sake or his. For some reason, it felt more like his.
Yuya simply looked at him, and, momentarily, Yamada had this weird thought that the guy might punch him because of what he just said. Yuya certainly looked like it and really, he wouldn’t be that surprised just in case. After all, he had just consecutively thrown implications and insults to the guy, especially on a topic they’ve all agreed in the past to be quite a raw spot for the guy.
Yuya’s eyes hardened but he didn’t throw that punch. Instead, he threw something else, something stronger than a punch, something that practically wrenched his gut.
“Then something else, something bigger must have happened between the two of you for this to happen, right?”
Yamada blinked as a memory nearly two months old flashed in his mind. He felt himself staggering.
His eyes, clouded with confusion and panic and that ton of emotions fighting for dominance within him, turned to Yuya questioningly and, for the first time and despite the turbulence within him, he saw something in the guy’s eyes he’d never seen before.
Pain. Regret. And then understanding.
“What am I going to do?” he found himself asking.
He heard Yuya sigh.
“You’re right when you said that what happened to me is different from yours,” the guy said. “But if there’s a common point, it would have something to do with regret. I regretted not being able to protect her, I still do. I’m not sure what you’re going to regret about but find out. Find out and reach out. It would be the best, for the both of you.”
Yamada nodded, not knowing that he did what he did, as his eyes trained on the horizon. A whole jumble of emotions were still fighting for dominance in his heart but he knew the guy was right.
He needed to find out.

SHIDA MIRAI Announces Indefinite Leave
-----
6 years later
“We are Hey! Say! Jump!”
“You guys are the best!”
“Keep on supporting us!”
“Looking forward to meeting you again in our 13th year!”
Those were the words, plus a hundred other variants of “Thank you!” filled the air as their group filled out of Tokyo Dome after the second encore of their final concert for their 13th anniversary tour. They were all tired really, sweat pouring out of their pores and breathes huffed just so they could keep up with all the singing, dancing, running and flying they’ve just done for almost two hours in front of all their fans. But as tired as they were, all nine members weren’t quiet, not even close. With their adrenaline still running high, they all continued to chat as they headed back to the greenroom.
“This must have been what Ohchan felt during their 13th anniversary too!” Chinen could be heard exclaiming by the very front of the group.
Yamada chuckled as he shook his head endearingly, nudging Yuto, the two bringing up the rear of the group.
“This feels amazing!” Yamada exclaimed.
“Yeah, all those people…” Yuto trailed. “It’s unbelievable we actually reached this kind of state!”
“Yeah,” Yamada exclaimed, his voice hoarse from all the singing and shouting he had just done.
“I’m still amazed by the fact that we lasted this long!” Yuya chuckled from the front. A couple of weird chuckles, awkward coughs and cheers followed as they all entered the greenroom.
All of them except Yamada, who, for some reason, felt like someone was calling his name from behind. Turning around though, he saw no one in sight.
His eyebrows were still furrowed in confusion when Yuto stepped back out of the room and called “Yama-chan, what’s wrong?”
Yamada shook his head and forced out a smile. But even as he made a move to follow his group mates and friends inside, he couldn’t help but turn back once again. It really felt as though a familiar voice was calling his name, except that somehow, it wasn’t really his name.
-----
“Rui!” a young woman in her mid-20’s called as she pushed an airport trolley right in front of her. Dressed in plain jeans, a parka and glasses, she doesn’t really stand out of place or fashion in the area, not when there were a handful other people dressed similarly in the arrivals area.
A few feet in front of her, a young boy of age 5 or 6, smiled as he ran freely for the first time a couple of hours having been holed up in his seat on the plane throughout their whole trip from London to Japan.
“Rui! Wait for me,” the young woman called once again, her voice stern but fond as she addressed the young boy, even raising her hand to wave at the boy who had turned around to grin sheepishly at her.
The boy had pale complexion, huge expressive eyes, rather chubby cheeks, and quite a unique smile.
“Mama, you’re taking so long!” the boy called Rui laughed as he walked backwards.
“Rui, stop that!” the woman cried sternly. “Look at where you’re going!” she warned.
The warning came a bit too late though since Rui, who still hadn’t turned around, ended up really bumping into someone.
“Rui!” she called, running towards her son as she rushed to the boy that fell to the arms of some stranger, her eyes not even bothering to glance at the man since her all attention was on Rui. “I’m really sorry, sir. Please forgive my son, he should have been more careful.”
“No worries, I was waiting for him anyway,” came the reply from the stranger and the woman ended up gasping in surprise at the familiar voice. “And you too, Shida Mirai-chan.”

SUMMARY: Mirai felt betrayed by her 'best friend'...
AUTHOR'S NOTE: A retelling of an old rumor...
Coming backs and homecomings are supposed to be happy occasions. Well, actually, it was. For a while Yamada Ryosuke could not feel anything but the warm welcome of his friends and classmates when he returned within the confines of Horikoshi Gakuen’s Class 1D. It’s not that he was gone long though, just about two and a half days when he had to skip class because of his drama’s hectic schedule. He barely even saw Chinen Yuri and Nakajima Yuto during those two and a half days and they belong to the same group!
But the warm welcome didn’t last long, or rather, it didn’t go the same for everyone in school.
If anything, the fact that a particular somebody, especially considering that it’s that particular someone, treating him coldly and practically ignoring him made it worse.
“Did something happen when I was gone?” Yamada whispered, leaning towards Chinen, as he continued to eye said person ignoring him.
“I’m not so sure,” Chinen replied as he, and Yuto, too turned to that person, everything from the way his eyebrows are knit to the look in his eyes says that Chinen has an idea, just that he may not be too sure about it.
“Why don’t you go find out,” Yuto suggested with a small push, forcing the although stockier but infinitely smaller Yamada towards that person’s direction, causing Yamada to advance two steps.
Yamada didn’t need telling twice though as he only took one look back to his two friends before advancing.
“Hi Mirai-chan!” he greeted, approaching the girl’s seat where she currently chatting with two of her closer girl friends in class, Kawashima Umika and Ohgo Suzuka.
What happened next was just additional proof that something was off.
Shida Mirai, his, so to speak, female best friend threw him a glare. It wasn’t even just a glare. It was a death glare!
“Shida-san?” he, unknowingly, backed down almost immediately, his eyes still on the girl he’s been friends with since he first worked with her in that SP drama. He didn’t even notice that Suzuka and Umika had caught each other’s eyes and were trying hard not to snigger as their gazes travelled from him to Mirai. Back from where he started, Chinen and Yuto were watching them interestedly too.
“Do you have anything to say?” Mirai simply said, her eyebrow slightly raised as she exuded that sort of scary attitude that is usually reserved for the instigator of the worst misdeed a woman could ever know.
“N-Nothing really,” he ended up stuttering.
“I thought so,” Mirai said haughtily though something with the way her eyes flickered told Yamada that he might have said exactly the wrong thing. That much was punctuated when, after a split-second, Mirai excused herself from Suzuka and Umika and left the room, the two girls left behind throwing him what looks like a ‘what-are-you-going-to-do-know?’ look to him the moment she turned her back.
Wearing a stunned look, Yamada couldn’t do anything else but simply watched her leave. Moments later, he felt a light thump on his back. Turning around, he saw Kamiki Ryunosuke.
“You’re not following her out?” Kamiki asked curiously. Then, after seeing his stunned look, added with a chuckle, “Digging yourself quite a bigger hole huh?”
“I don’t even know what I did wrong!” Yamada admitted in exasperation.
“More of what you didn’t do actually,” came another voice, this time, it’s Hongo Kanata who stepped next to him on his other side. A quick look at the guy told Yamada that Hongo, like Kamiki, had an amused, knowing look on his face. The double, almost patronizing, tap on his shoulder from Kamiki told him that the guy agreed.
Yamada didn’t even bother questioning what the two guys knew (because they aren’t going to say anyway) or the authenticity of what they said since these two, more than anyone else in the room (to a certain extent even Suzuka and Umika), knew the eccentricities of being Mirai’s friend.
“Go get her tiger!” Hongo even jokingly added as Yamada felt a light push from both the guy and Kamiki. Behind them, Yuto and Chinen nodded encouragingly and by the corner of his eyes, he saw Suzuka and Umika smiling approvingly.
-----
He found her at the rooftop.
Well, not necessarily found, per se, since he didn’t really search. Somehow, he knew he was going to see her there, not even when he wasn’t sure why she left the room in the first place. But since it’s still just study period, he took his chances and he was rewarded, so to speak. Except that when he saw Mirai, he can’t really consider it as a reward since there’s a sad, hurt look on her face as she looked at some point in a distance.
Yamada knew it wasn’t going to be an easy conversation when he cleared his throat and all Mirai said was “Oh.”
He approached her slowly, as though threading unknown waters, and even as he stood next to her, he remained quiet for a while he still did not know what he did wrong.
He didn’t have to wait long.
“Some best friend you are,” Mirai snorted, her voice doused in sarcasm. “But then again it might just be a nickname to you, like you guys with your leader nicknames.”
Yamada blinked. He still did not know what he did wrong. “Mirai-chan,” he started although he did not know what he’s going to say next.
“So, I guess it’s true huh?” she continued as though he had not mentioned her name. “Since I’ve just been gone for two weeks and I come back and Mariya-kun has transferred out.”
“Ma…riya-kun?” Yamada repeated in confusion.
“Still playing the innocent card huh?” Mirai snorted again before she sighed and rounded on him, her eyes flaring this time. “What kind of a best friend are you?! You go around and date a girl, a classmate no less, behind my back and then even with the whole country now talking about it, you stand there and act innocent?!”
Yamada felt his jaws drop at her words before he finally recovered enough to say “Date? Me?!”
“Yes you!” Mirai cried, looking away from him again. “It’s all I’ve been hearing about ever since I came back to school. Yamada Ryosuke and Nishiuchi Mariya dating! Love is in bloom for a Johnny at Horikoshi Gakuen! Argh! I don’t know why I’m even surprised. I mean, I shouldn’t be. A few weeks before I went on temporary leave here, I saw you two being friendly. Too friendly, I guess, especially since you’re you.”
“Hey, I’m a friendly person!” Yamada interjected, almost complainingly, before Mirai could add anything else. “And I don’t know any of these. Mariya-kun and I aren’t dating.”
“Oh really,” Mirai snorted. “Why the sudden transfer then? It’s too much of a coincidence that she does this around the same time the news breaks out that you two are going out.”
Yamada sighed as he reached out to scratch the back of his head. Mirai hmp-ed.
“Look, I don’t know why she transferred,” he said eventually. “Just that she did. She mentioned something like that before but I didn’t ask further and she didn’t say anything else. She has her reasons. And whatever those reasons are, it does not include me.”
There was still a resolute pout on Mirai’s face as he finished his statement but she did look a bit more annoyed than angry (which she certainly looked moments ago).
“I swear,” he added. For some reason, he really, really wanted her convinced. The sigh she later gave out told him he finally achieved that. He couldn’t help but smile.
“You are going to tell me if you’re dating someone, aren’t you?” Mirai said eventually as she turned to him. She looked slightly ashamed but it was overcome by the worry evident in her face. By the looks of it, what she just said really did concern her.
“I promise!” Yamada said, a huge smile on his lips as he raised his right hand. As a smile slowly crept to Mirai’s lips he couldn’t help but grin more. “So, tell me, which part made you more upset?” he added cheekily. “The part where I didn’t tell you I was supposed to be dating somebody or the part where I was supposedly dating somebody?”
Mirai snorted as she looked away. “Please, don’t flatter yourself,” she said although there was a hint of red she hadn’t entirely successfully succeeded in camouflaging. “You’re not my type.”
“Says you,” he added with a grin before he remembered something else. “Oh! And may I just point out, that time you said we were being too friendly was when we were paired for our science project. Which reminds me, I’m going to have to find myself a new partner or else I’m going solo for the rest of the year.”
“Like that’s going to cause you any difficulty, I know a few girls in class who’d want to be paired with you, though I don’t know why,” Mirai snorted “plus you can always ask Nakajima-kun or Chinen-kun to pair up with you.”
“Or I can ask you,” Yamada pointed out practically before a thought hit him. “And then the two of us would be rumored to be boyfriend-girlfriend!”
“Eeew!” they simultaneously both said, complete with them shuddering.
Except that somehow, in the back of his mind, something tells Yamada that wouldn’t be a bad idea.

and just because... *grins*
TITLE: Wrong Reason
CHARACTERS: Chinen Yuri, Kawashima Umika, Yamada Ryosuke, Nakajima Yuto
GENRE: RL
RATINGS: PG
DISCLAIMER: The only thing i own in this story is the plot...
SUMMARY: Chinen has his reasons why his world shook when Umika guested in HNA...
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Another retelling on a (not so) old event...
Kawashima Umika almost felt giddy.
For a popular actress and idol in her teens, such a feat is quite amazing already, especially considering that the word ‘almost’ is just about ready to be scrapped for her to be full-pledged giddy. Really, she didn’t have the time or opportunity to berate herself for acting like that (even though she had repeatedly told herself not to) but she was a bit too busy trying to fight off that grin that’s threatening to rise to her lips.
She shouldn’t grin, not yet at least, especially not when she’s right next to an extremely annoyed and almost furious Chinen Yuri, surrounded by a couple of their friends.
The guy’s been in that state since he entered early that morning, and no one would be mistaken as to why. Umika’s guesting on Himutsu no Arashi-chan had just aired the night before and it’s an absolute guarantee that Chinen had watched the episode. And therein lay the problem.
Ever since, well, ever since they could recall really, Chinen had always been this spoiled bratty prince everyone works hard not to annoy if only to avoid severe consequences in their lives. And there are certain things that really shouldn’t happen, intended or not, in the eyes of the spoiled bratty prince. (At times like these, most of them end up wondering if all those times Chinen spent fanboying Ohno Satoshi resulted to him imbibing some of the trademarks characteristics of Ohno’s age-less pal, Ninomiya Kazunari.)
But happen it did, and it wasn’t like it could be avoided. In retrospect, it wasn’t even like it could not have been foreseen. After all, just because it miraculously didn’t happen during the Kaibutsukun days does it mean that it wouldn’t happen at all.
It was what one might consider ‘unavoidable’. But really, no one could blame Chinen for reacting that way, no one who really knew Chinen at least.
Umika. Ohno. Date.
Just those three words actually, those three words would be enough to set Chinen’s life in complete turmoil. Those, plus that it was aired on national television and that he wasn’t there.
“Come on Chii,” Yamada said, Umika noticing that the guy is trying his best not to roll his eyes as he consoled his disheartened and annoyed friend. “It’s not like it was for real… You do know that it was just for the show, right? You don’t have to be too annoyed.”
Instead of making Chinen feel better, it seemed to annoy the guy even more. “Yeah, coming from the guy who ignored Kamiki-kun for a whole week just because he got to act with Mirai-chan again,” he snapped.
Umika tried her best not to giggle as Yamada pouted. She too remembered how desperate Kamiki was because his self-proclaimed childhood buddy (just because they were just kids when they first got to act together) was treating him as the Invisible Man.
“Now, now, don’t be harsh,” Yuto interjected but Umika saw the laughter in his eyes. “This is just work, you should know that. There are some things that happen that we just cannot avoid. Look at it this way, shouldn’t you be happier seeing two of your favorite people in the world get along together?”
Umika knew just by the looks of it that this hit Chinen the way Yamada’s words didn’t but, judging by the way the former looked at their tallest, he was still annoyed.
“Well, we can’t all be a Mister Nice Guy, can we?” he snapped, derision dripping in his words. Yuto looked almost tearful.
Umika shook her head endearingly. Sometimes, or most of the time, Chinen gets too fiercely determined about something that he ends up ignoring everyone else’s opinion on the matter. It’s endearingly, really, but it sometimes gets a bit too draggy.
Like now.
“Chii…” she started softly, making Chinen turn to him.
For a while, there was a hurt look on Chinen’s eyes as he looked into hers. And then he sighed.
“I just can’t help it!” Chinen complained. “I mean, sure, I should be happy and all but it hurts. I almost didn’t make it through the whole episode. It should have been me,” he added with a sigh.
Despite herself, Umika found herself imagining how it would have been if it was Chinen with him in that amusement park and not two of his much respected sempais. She stopped herself though before she could end up revealing how lightheaded Chinen’s words were making him.
“I mean,” Chinen continued. “I’ve always dreamed that it’d be me there! I wanted to be so badly! Sure, it’s not as important as fishing but- ”
It was at this moment that the cloud nine bubble Umika was riding was pricked. Fishing? Really?! But it was only until his next words that the bubble completely burst.
“I’ve always wanted for Ohchan to invite me out!” the guy cried in despair.
“Why don’t you just date him and get over it then?!” Umika snapped, her voice lacking the soft, warm tone she always uses when it comes to the guy. She’s fuming.
And before anyone else could say a thing, she stormed out of the room.
-----
“What is her problem?!” Chinen exclaimed in surprise and outrage as their group watched Umika’s back. “I’m the one who’s angry here!”
“Oh, I don’t know,” Yamada chuckled, finally recovering from Chinen’s jibe earlier and noticing an opportunity to get even with his friend “maybe because you’re angrier over the fact that she went on a ‘date’ with your idol over the fact that she didn’t go on that date with you.”
Chinen pouted. “She’s my girlfriend, sure, but I’ve idolized Ohchan much, much longer!” he tried to reason.
Yuto groaned. “Please, I don’t want to be involved with this,” the guy begged.
“But it is true!” Chinen implored.
“Yeah,” Yamada grinned. “Keep digging your own grave.”

Need anymore proof?
LOL!
Seriously, I'm not complaining, I'm having fun writing them actually. I've enjoyed watching HSJ for quite some time now, earlier than most of the sempai groups i've been into. My favorite? Although it might not be so obvious based on the above, it's Yuya! lol...
but since i've been in more of a mood to write HSJ, i haven't been able to really continue with my other stories... I'm not forcing myself though, since i'm afraid that if i do, my muse ends up leaving me again (such a moody muse really!). But i've had the chance to work slowly with Perfect... It's not much, but there's progress...
So, why not? :D
