Title: Good Intentions
Pairing: Akanishi JinxYamashita Rina
Rating: PG
Summary: It’s Yamapi’s good intention to help his sister. It’s Ryo’s ‘good’ intention to help a friend. It’s Rina’s ‘good’ intention to help him and herself. And it’s Jin’s… well, Jin is entirely (although not so much) innocent here for a change. LOL!
A/N: to be honest, this would have been a whole lot different and finished a whole lot earlier, if not for Jin’s recent events… But a wish is a wish… I hope you enjoy it
go_chan2011go_chan2011… set sometime before Jin left for the U.S.
Yamashita Tomohisa could only sigh as he glanced at his wrist watch for the nth time during the last 5 minutes before his gaze went to the door right in front of him. In an entirely different situation, he would have just barged into the room and nagged, no, talked, to his targeted person. But just for that moment, he couldn't, or, using the more appropriate term, he shouldn't, not when Nishikido Ryo is hiding within the confines of the Kanjani8 greenroom.
Yamapi could not help but snort. He could trust it really to Ryo to plan everything so that he would be in his other group's greenroom during the date and time he had planned everything to happen.
It was, so to speak, one of his more desperate ideas. He had always known that in some way or another, his being a Johnny idol would affect not only him but also his family. Maybe he didn't quite expect that even Rina's love life would be affected by his chosen profession but when he saw that finding a partner had become a lot more tedious for his sister than usual, he decided to step in. Well, not him exactly, because as a brother, no man would ever be good enough for his sister, and rightfully so.
This is where Ryo enters. He had asked his group mate and friend to help him out in finding Rina's match. It was rather like a goukun, except that there are no other people there. And Ryo had told him that he had just found the perfect guy for Rina. In fact, Ryo sent him a message saying that he had just found the perfect guy for Rina and that he had already sent Rina for a date with the guy. He's thankful to Ryo for that, really, except for one thing. Ryo had not yet told him who the guy was.
And while he's really, completely free to go in and ask Ryo despite the fact that it isn't his greenroom to barge into, Yamapi would never do that, not when he wants Ryo's involvement with Rina a secret. It's not that he's afraid the guys from Kanjani8 would get interested in his sister. It's more that he's afraid the guys would get interested in what their group mate has to do with his sister.
One, or two counting Ryo, idol is already too much interference in Rina's life. Adding 6 more crazy ones would be way out of control.
And just as Yamapi is to heave out another sigh, the door opened and Yamapi finally smiled.
"What the hell are you doing there?!" Ryo cried in surprise.
Yamapi snorted as he straightened out. "Waiting for you, what else?! Standing alone in the cold hallways is not a hobby you know! I don't even know why it's so cold out here"
"Ooooh!" Ryo grinned. "It's raining hard outside, that's probably why it's cold here now."
"It is?" Yamapi asked in surprise, having not been around windows and/or doors for the past few hours. His surprise was quickly replaced with worry though when he remembered why he was there in the first place. "Where did you send Rina? Don't tell me she's out there soaked in the rain?!"
"What do you think of me, an idiot?!" Ryo did some snorting of his own. "Don't worry, she's safe and sound."
"You're sure?"
"Of course I'm sure!" Ryo rolled his eyes. "I'm a smart-ass, not a jack-ass, I'd make you guys suffer, not your sisters."
"I'm not sure if I should be relieved," Yamapi said eventually. "Where did you send her to?"
Ryo snorted, again. "The main reason why you asked me to look for her match instead of you doing it is so you would not be showing up to ruin things. Why the hell would I be telling you where I sent her to?"
Yamapi opened his mouth to object, but then thought about it and closed it again. "Fair enough," he finally said. "Who is the guy anyway?"
"Same answer," Ryo replied, whipping out his phone as he leaned on the wall, not even bothering to look at Yamapi.
"Fine," Yamapi all but rolled his eyes. "But this guy, you do know him, right? You're sure he's all right? You sure he knows who Rina is and who I am, right? Because I don't want that simple fact to be interfering with everything when the time comes."
Ryo finally looked up and grinned. "Rest assured, your identity will not be an issue with this guy!"
"And you're sure I'll like this guy for my sister?"
Ryo's grin widened. "Oh, you'll like him all right."
"Good!" Yamapi exhaled. Just when he was about to relax, he tensed up again and asked "She knew you were sending her on a date?"
"In a way," Ryo mysteriously grinned.
-----
"Jin?!"
"Rina!"
When Ryo simply told her that she should head out to her brother's apartment, Rina didn't really know why. She didn't get worried though, knowing that if Yamapi is in trouble, Ryo would tell her right away. And since Ryo was being cryptic, it meant that whatever it is would not be a reason for worry. In some ways, Ryo had become her brother too.
But opening the door to see a fresh from the showers Akanishi Jin step out of her brother's room was one thing she had never expected and it seems, her presence, is completely unexpected too.
"What are you doing here?!" she and Jin even blurted out almost at the same time before her surprise finally gave way to other reactions and Rina turned her back quickly to the guy.
"This is Pi's place,” she managed to say even as she did; as she tried to digest why on earth the guy would be in her brother's apartment.
"Well, yeah," Jin replied as though it was answer enough. And maybe it is, after all, Jin and Yamapi are the best of friends.
Rina had just rolled her eyes and was about to concede to his point when she made the wrong move of actually simply starting to turn around to face the guy again before she remembered his state of dress, or to be more specific, state of undress.
"Y-you know, you can go back in and change," she suggested pointedly.
"Oh! Yeah!" Jin exclaimed. "Wait here!" he added and, judging by the sounds of it, he had re-entered Pi's bedroom and closed the door.
Rina stood there, rolling her eyes first at the guy's statement; of course she'd be staying there! What with the rain suddenly pouring down hard, she had just even considered herself lucky that she had already entered the shade. But her incredulity at the guy's words was completely overshadowed when she turned around and faced the closed door.
She can still clearly picture Jin standing there and she couldn't help but swallow, hard.
It was actually one of her little big secrets, her secret crush on the man her older brother calls one of his best friends. It had started years and years ago actually, and, to a certain extent, she'd blame it on Yamapi. After all, it was Yamapi who had been acting like a good friend then and brought over his friend to the house for dinner. She had just entered her teens and the sight of Jin in their dining table had made quite an impression to her that she never really quite got over the guy.
She had pretended otherwise though, to not make things awkward between them, which wasn't easy in any way especially with the guy almost always showing up. But through the years, she had perfected the craft of pretending she was not affected. Every so often though, she slips and forgets that she has to pretend she's not interested in her brother's best friend.
Like say, during those times when the said best friend suddenly appears before her with a towel draped dangerously low over his waist, wearing that and only that.
Rina had to fan herself and take measured breaths as she tried to push away the blush that was threatening to rise to her face. Jin is already hot but a topless Jin is one to stir the senses. Even more is that a topless Jin with droplets of water still clinging to his skin makes a woman think about certain things she shouldn't about her older brother's best friend and secretly wish that the guy would see her as more than a best friend’s younger sister.
-----
"Ryo sent you here?!" Jin asked in disbelief, momentarily pausing from his chopping, as he looked at the woman right across the table from him.
The two of them are already in the kitchen, having both decided to come up with something from Yamapi's fridge. Personally though, they both decided that it’s going to be better for them to be doing something than just sitting around in the living room, not that the other knew that it’s exactly what the other is thinking anyway. It was a good pretense though, especially with the rain falling so hard by then that some hot soup would be deliciously welcome. Jin had just started working on some of the ingredients.
“Yep,” Rina, nodded as she stood up and headed to the fridge.
It was only really in curiosity when Jin followed her movements to see what she’s going to do. Really, just that! It’s not like he’s used to following the girl, no, woman, around with his eyes whenever she enters his line of sight. But he had noticed her of course. How could he not when she has grown beautifully into a swan from the shy, awkward girl he had first seen years before?
But she’s Yamapi’s sister, and, well, that, more than anything else, would stop him from doing something he would have done by now when presented by a woman that beautiful.
But even armed with that knowledge, Jin had to swallow hard when he caught a glimpse of Rina’s silhouette against the light of the open fridge.
“Why?” he asked, his voice even catching a bit, as he tried to rid his mind of ‘evil’ thoughts. He told Ryo, when he couldn’t catch Pi, that he’s heading to the latter’s apartment.
“Don’t know,” came Rina’s reply. “He didn’t say, just that I should come here. How about you? What are you doing here?”
“My place has air conditioning problems,” Jin replied. “Your brother knew you’re coming here?”
“I’m not sure,” Rina answered and Jin’s shoulders literally dropped.
He had hoped that Yamapi knew about Rina going there since Yamapi knowing would mean Yamapi showing up in the next hour or so. He knew his best friend’s tendency of being an overprotective brother, even against him. Not that he’s afraid or anything though, he just doesn’t trust himself much to stay around Rina that long and not do anything. If it had been any other situation, he’d have already made up an excuse and leave but with the rain pouring that hard, it’s practically impossible.
“I tried calling him but my cell service has no signal,” Rina continued, not even noticing anything of the internal struggle going through Jin at the moment. “The line’s dead too.”
Jin whipped out his phone at the mention of this and he almost growled seeing that he had no service either. The storm was causing havoc to the cell signals.
“Maybe Ryo will tell my brother,” Rina eventually shrugged.
Jin would have thought, or more properly at the moment, hoped, for that too, except that he knew Ryo and that some part of him actually accuses Ryo of putting him in a difficult situation. After all, Ryo found out about his not so ‘pure’ feelings for his best friend’s sister during one of their drinking sessions in the past. He had hoped that the guy had forgotten all about it, that he’d been too drunk that day, and for some time, Jin thought his wishes had come true. But right now, right now he has this suspicious belief that Ryo has just been bidding his time.
“You know, I think I’d like to drink,” Rina suddenly cried, causing Jin to jump, the knife in his hand barely missing his finger.
Looking around at the woman, he saw that Rina’s already looking through Yamapi’s cupboards.
“I don’t think that’d be a good idea,” he tried to stop her, really meaning what he just said. With his wits completely with him, he’s already having a hard time controlling himself around her, alcohol loosening him, them, up would just mean trouble.
Rina actually stopped from her rummaging and looked at him in surprise, Jin knew why. After all, it’s quite uncharacteristic for him to say no to alcohol. He shrugged.
“I don’t know where your brother hides his alcohol,” he told her, which is actually true. Yamapi’s been hiding his stock from him since the guy was afraid he’d treat his apartment as a bar.
Rina winked before turning her back to him again, Jin taking that opportunity to let out a sigh.
Barely a minute later though, Rina turned around again and grinned, a bottle of aged old wine in her hands “Yamapi is my brother,” she chuckled.
-----
“So tell me,” Rina slurred after she downed her umpteenth glass that night. It’s been about three hours since they started drinking and both are on their way to getting drunk, neither of them really noticing that the rain had stopped or the fact that Rina’s phone had been ringing. “Why is Akanishi Jin still unattached?”
Jin almost choked on the wine he was about to take in. He didn’t make it that obvious though since Rina, as drunk as she seemed to be, still has her eyes on him.
“You should ask your brother that,” Jin replied cryptically.
When Rina’s jaws dropped, Jin, for a split-second, thought that Rina had read through his words and realized that he liked her, but then Rina exclaimed “Of my god! Are you and my brother--?!”
Jin, who was about to put his glass down fumbled at the unexpected conclusion to his words. His glass fell and hit the wine bottle, making it fall in turn.
“Oh god!” he cried as he tried to stop the water spilling, Rina helping soon after with a hearty chuckle.
“That’s not what I meant!” he cried as Rina tossed him a rag cloth, his hands immediately trying to, clumsily, dry up the mess. “I mean you’re brother’s reason is the same as mine. Our work!”
“I know,” Rina grinned mischievously. “It was just funny seeing your reaction,” she admitted. “Though I have to say, for a split second there, I did consider the idea,” she said sheepishly as she helped him wipe.
Jin pouted, not really knowing what else to do or say at that. He also looked purposely away from her. After a while though, when Rina hadn’t said a word, he looked at her in worry and confusion, thinking that the girl had already passed out. He found her looking at him a little too intensely for his comfort.
“You know, you’re hands are really beautiful,” Rina, unexpectedly told him and Jin found himself tongue-tied. “And you really have very pretty eyes… and nose… and lips…”
“Rina…” Jin started, his breathing getting labored, as he tried to stop the woman. It’s already one thing trying to control himself even with all that alcohol, it’s a whole lot other when she’s sprouting all those words. He even had to swallow hard. And at that point he’s already, seriously, and very, very drunk.
“What?! It’s true,” Rina shrugged as she moved closer to him. “I’ve always had this thing for you,” she whispered as she got to his side.
“D-don’t do this,” Jin whispered, more to himself than to Rina actually, his hands balling in fists to control himself.
“Do what?” Rina asked, her smile mischievous. “You can always tell my brother I seduced you, instead of you seducing me…”
Jin, feeling a lot more intoxicated with her scent next to him, found himself jerking at her mentioning her brother. In pretense though, his hands landed on the rag on the table and started wiping again.
“Your brother is going to kill me!” he slurred.
Rina chuckled next to him as she pulled him back with her immediately hovering over him when he did.
“At least let him kill you over something you’ll really enjoy,” she said before her lips descended on his.
It didn’t take much, or long, for Jin to lose himself though as he moved in and deepened the kiss.
-----
“I am not running a bulletin Pi!” Ryo complained loudly over the phone. “Rina hasn’t contacted me! I told you I will contact you when she does! I don’t know why you keep calling me!”
“Since Rina’s not picking up her phone and you’re not naming her date, you’re sticking with me until she calls or I get tired of waiting and kill you anyway,” Yamapi growled as his hand moved to open his apartment door. “At the very least, I need someone to wait with until my sister calls.”
“Rina can take care of herself,” and Yamapi knew that the guy is rolling his eyes right about then.
“Yes, but she’s still my little sis-!” Yamapi was saying but then he fully entered the apartment and saw the scene that awaited him inside. “RINA! JIN!!!”
-----
“You’re my best friend! She’s my sister! Common courtesy dictates that you don’t DO your best friend’s sister!” Yamapi call but screamed at Jin.
The two of them were already at the kitchen, the furthest possible area of the apartment from Yamapi’s room where Yamapi had sent Rina after waking the two up. By the looks of it, she, well, both of them really, is really drunk. But someone needed to hear Yamapi rant and rave though and since she’s his sister, she gets to hear it when she’s sober.
Jin, though, will have to listen to all of it now and also when he’s sober.
“Nuzing ‘appened,” Jin replied sleepily and drunkenly.
Although drunk, Yamapi knew that Jin is telling the truth. Not because he knew the guy though because if he’s going to rely on that, then something should have happened. But nothing did, mainly because while Rina was sprawled over Jin and Jin had his arms around Rina when he entered his apartment, both of them were clothed, fully and completely. Though Yamapi figured he would probably have to thank his hidden-but-now-is-obviously-unearthed wine bottle for that.
“It almost did!” Yamapi cried as he turned around, his mind still taking in the implication of what had (or had not) happened.
“I don’t know what you’re so angry about actually,” he heard Ryo interject. Ryo was still on the phone actually, on loudspeaker, hearing everything. “It could have been worse. At least they both had their clothes on. Imagine how it would have been otherwise.”
Yamapi winced as an image of two of the most important people in his life sprawled against each other naked entered his mind. He must admit, the guy has a point. He was just about to tell the guy that and concede when he remembered something.
“And you!” he pointed at his phone as he turned his back to Jin as though the phone is Ryo and Ryo can see him doing it. “What the hell are you doing matching my sister to this idiot?!”
“Oi!” Jin complained lightly but Yamapi barely registered that. Jin’s going to hear a lot more from him but at the moment, Ryo is his target, more because Ryo can cut him off while Jin, at the moment, can’t.
“What?!” Ryo chuckled. “I told you you’ll like him.”
“BUT HE’S JIN!” Yamapi exclaimed.
“And he’s your best friend. Who else will you like better than him?” Ryo said a matter-of-factly.
Yamapi couldn’t help but gape at his phone as though he’s gaping at the guy on the other line. Why did he ever trust Ryo with something as important as that?!
“Why didn’t you tell me about it?!” he decided to demand.
Ryo chuckled, heartily. “Where’s the fun in that?” he said. “Anyway, while I do enjoy hearing you crow, I have to get up early tomorrow. “Night Pi!” he added before the line went dead.
“Ryo! RYO!!!” Pi cried, reaching for his phone and quickly redialing the guy’s number. When he was sent to the guy’s mailbox though, he could only growl, his grip on the phone tightening, part of him wishing that it’s Ryo’s neck, before he placed it down and turned to the only other living, breathing who can respond to him.
Jin though, had fallen asleep amidst all his shouting, his head simply leaning on the wall with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
Yamapi wanted to growl, he wanted to hit somebody but he knew he couldn’t. After all, what good would it do when Jin won’t hear or feel it. But most of all, he wanted to cry out loud.
HOW THE HELL DID HE GET HIMSELF IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS?!
-----
Six days later…
“So, how’s everything going on?” Ryo asked the moment Rina sat opposite him on a café in downtown Tokyo.
“It’s good,” Rina smiled. “Jin’s finally given up and admitted he liked me too. We’re having dinner at his place tonight.”
Ryo snorted. “And Pi?” he asked with a smirk.
“You mean you haven’t seen my brother?” Rina asked in surprise.
“Oh, believe me, I want to but we haven’t had anything scheduled for the group yet so I haven’t seen him yet,” he said. “I even think he’s avoiding me.”
Rina chuckled. “Oh, he’ll come around,” she smiled. “He’s more pouty than angry now. You should have seen him the day after, he looked murderous.”
“Oh, I heard him all right,” Ryo chuckled. “It would have been priceless if I was there though. So tell me, was the wine intentional or accidental.”
“A little bit of both,” Rina admitted. “I felt really nervous when there’s just the two of us there but then everything flowed out smoothly and… well…” she added with a sly grin.
Ryo threw out his head and chuckled at this. “I can only imagine Jin and Yamapi’s reactions when they find out that you’ve planned to seduce Jin from the start. Guess it didn’t work out that smoothly for that part huh?”
It was Rina, before Yamapi, who approached him first really, about her loveless situation. Well, more talk than actual approach though, like the way Yamapi did. She said she just needed a friend who’d understand her situation. But Ryo managed to pry out from the woman her feelings for her brother’s best friend.
“I didn’t really count on the two of us getting that drunk,” Rina admitted with a slight blush. “Which reminds me, why didn’t you tell me Jin was going to be there?”
Ryo grinned. While she and Rina already had a plan going on, he didn’t actually tell Rina when the plan was going to be put in motion. “What fun would the game be when you know what all the cards are?”
Rina narrowed her eyes at him for a while before she ended up smiling. “I guess I owe you one.”
“And so declares the Yamashita siblings!” Ryo smiled.
Rina sat there looking at him curiously until her phone signaled the arrival of a message.
Checking it out, she couldn’t help but fight off a smile before she stowed it back to her bag and stood up. “Well, that was Jin. I guess I have to go.”
“I thought the dinner date was tonight?” Ryo asked with a grin.
“The dinner is tonight,” Rina smiled. “But the date starts this morning. He’s waiting for me outside.”
Ryo couldn’t help but chuckle and shake his head as he watched the woman walk away. Inching his head to the left to peer towards the entrance, he saw her approach a man wearing a coat, a scarf, dark glasses and a fedora. The man immediately stood up the moment Rina arrived and they walked out, hand in hand.
Ryo snorted as he raised his coffee cup to his lips.
“Yeah, real original Jin! With that get up, no one is going to figure out that it’s you,” he said sarcastically as his mind pictured the juicy taglines for the tabloids and thinking that Johnny would have to compete against Pi on who’d be more furious at this.
