Chapter 1
“Did you hear? ‘Dreamers’ has arrived!” one of the girls at the cd shop whispered excitedly to her friends.
“Dreamers?” one of her friends repeated, looking at the first girl in confusion.
The first girl, along with their other friends, rounded in on the woman, their faces in outrage. “Are you living under a rock?! Come on! ‘Dreamers’ just happens to be one of the hottest bands in the world right now!” one of them raged.
Another, looking and sounding a bit more calmly as compared to the others patiently explained “They’re a band that got big in the States though they’re all Japanese.”
“And they’re all very dreamy…”
“Oh… Okay,” the girl smiled uneasily, trying to appease her friends while feeling conscious of the attention their group was getting from some of the other patrons in the shop.
Two rows next to them though, one person barely noticed the commotion, especially when her ears is stuffed with a headset as she tried on one of the CDs.
Nagasawa Masami wasn’t really into the music scene, so to speak, she’d listen to the radio every now and then but she isn’t really the type to follow groups or singers or the like. She preferred reading books if she has the time. Besides, it’s not like her profession as a primary school teacher requires her to be up to date with the music industry.
But her friend and co-teacher, Yokoyama You, had been bugging to try out his favorite band so she did, and surprisingly, she actually likes their sound. Reaching out to grab another CD release from the band, she almost jumped when she saw that another hand had reached out for the same CD at the same time.
“I’m sor-“ Masami said, removing her headset before turning around to face the other person only to stop in mid-sentence, almost sure that her face mirrors the exact surprised/shocked look she could see on the guy’s face beneath the hat and glasses.
“Maa-chan?”
“Nino?!”
-----
“I never knew that being a loner and playing the guitar makes one cool,” Masami snorted as she opened her locker, her voice only loud enough to allow the person next to her to hear. It wasn’t a problem though since he was the one she intended to hear anyway.
Nino smirked.
She had known Ninomiya Kazunari since she was 10 actually, having had attended the same school as the guy. But they weren’t close. They weren’t even friends either. But they do acknowledge each other with her snorting at him and him smirking back. Just the way they are now.
“And I never thought class representatives have to be this annoying,” Nino said as he closed his locker door. “At least you’re cute.”
Masami looked around and narrowed her eyes at the guy.
“Are you trying to hit on me?” she asked as her eyebrow shot up while fully expecting the guy to vehemently object.
She ended up getting surprised though when Nino simply smiled. “What if I say that I am?” he even said.
Masami laughed, sarcastically, before cutting it off quickly before saying “You’re not that cool.”
Nino smiled, seeming unperturbed. “You think.”
-----
“Wow, how long has it been?” Nino smiled, being the first to recover from the shock. “It’s nice to see you again.”
“W-when did you return?” Masami ended up stuttering, shaking her head lightly to make sure that she’s not dreaming and that he’s not a figment of her imagination.
-----
Five years ago…
“So, uhm, my flight is tomorrow,” Nino threw out all of a sudden as the two of them walked towards her house.
“Oh,” Masami exclaimed, trying to make it look like she’s surprised when in truth she isn’t.
She knew the very day that he’s leaving. She had it marked in her calendar since the day he told her. But she isn’t looking forward to it. Quite the opposite in fact. She dreaded the day, she dreaded the day ever since Nino told her that he wanted to go to the States to learn music, no, actually, she had already been afraid of that day ever since the two of them got together. She dreaded for it despite the fact that they have officially ended a couple of weeks ago.
“Yeah, good luck there. Take care of yourself,” she said without looking him in the eyes.
“Yeah,” Nino smiled, the smile turning a bout melancholic when he looked at her. “Uhm, about that thing the other week…”
“I’m not going to wait for you,” Masami cut in before Nino could even finish what he was saying. She already knew of course, where he’s going to, their break up.
“Kinda weird, really,” Nino bit out, rather hurt. “You don’t want me to go but you’re not going to wait for me.”
Masami sighed. “I never said I didn’t want you to go,” she said, stopping her tracks.
“Yeah, but you’d prefer if I stay here, right?” Nino asked, his face looking hopeful.
Masami shook her head. “It’s not about what I want, it’s about what you want. You’ve been wanting to go to the States to expand your music since forever, now, you have to chance, I am not going to stop you from grabbing that chance.”
“But why did we have to break up?” Nino replied, his voice getting high. “Why did our relationship have to end for my dream to happen?”
“You’re not even sure when you’re going to be able to come back,” Masami replied, her voice getting constricted as she fought off the tears from falling. “Or if you are! I don’t think I’m capable of waiting around and wondering when I’d get to see you again or if you’re seeing another woman over there. I don’t want to.”
“I just think that maybe we can work something out,” Nino shrugged.
“I’ve made up my mind,” Masami said with finality, her voice stronger. “I’m sticking with it.”
-----
“The other day,” Nino smiled. “But for PR purposes, it would be later today.” When Masami looked confused with what he said, he immediately added “Me and the guys wanted to have a couple of free days to spend here, I mean, being back home and all that, without all the reporters and photographers following us around.”
“Oh,” Masami nodded, a vague memory resurfacing about her hearing about Nino being a part of some band in the States already, Dreamers was the band’s name, or so she recalled. “Congratulations on the group by the way.”
“Thanks,” said Nino. “We really didn’t think we’d end up making it big. You’re looking good by the way.”
-----
“So, how do I look?” Masami asked nervously, patting down the coat she had chosen to wear over her suit. It was her first job interview as she turned around once for him to check it out.
“You look nice,” Nino smile, nodding his head appreciatively. “Really nice.”
“Are you sure?” she insisted, looking down on her outfit once again. She had been nervous of the interview ever since she got the call from a famous high school she had sent her resume to.
“Hey, I’m your boyfriend,” Nino chuckled. “No matter what you wear, I’m duty-bound to say that you look nice. And you always do.”
Masami narrowed her eyes at him and hit her playfully at the arm. “You’re not helping,” she said before turning her back to him.
Nino chuckled as he moved in to hug her from behind. “You’re looking good. And stop worrying yourself about the interview. One look at you and that school will know that you’re the best thing that could happen to them. You’re perfect.”
Masami, though still pretending to be miffed, couldn’t help but smile.
-----
“Ahm,” Masami started, shaking those memories off her head. “Thanks. I, uhm, it’s good to see you too.”
Nino smiled. Before he could say anything though, they both ended up turning when somebody called Masami’s name.
“Hey! I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” a good-looking guy exclaimed as he reached them, his arms immediately landing around Masami’s waist with a sweet smile on his lips. The guy didn’t even notice Nino until after a couple of seconds. “Oh…”
“Uhm, Ryo, this is Ninomiya-san, an old friend of mine,” Masami forced out the introductions, her heart suddenly beating erratically. “Ninomiya-san, this is Ryo, my boyfriend.”
“Hi, nice to meet you,” Ryo said immediately, extending his hand, a measured smile on his lips that started the moment Masami mentioned Nino’s name.
Nino seemed frozen for a while, his eyes on Masami first before it went to Ryo. He eventually shook the offered hand though, an equally measured smile plastered on his lips.
“It’s nice to meet you too,” he said.
-----
His eyes were still following the backs of Masami and Ryo as the two headed out of the shop, some part of him hoping, thinking that Masami would look back, when he was suddenly surprised by someone stomping him on the back. Turning around, he saw the rest of his band already in the shop, and he remembered just in time why he was there in the first place, and why the others were there too.
It was, is, their meeting place before they all head back to the airport for their ‘official arrival’.
Except that it was pushed to the very back of his mind when he saw his ex-girlfriend again.
“Who was that?” Ohkura, the band’s ironically quiet drummer asked, nodding towards the entrance where Masami and Ryo had just exited.
“Who’s who?” Nino asked, feigning innocence. He never told his band mates, despite the fact that he’s been with them for about four years now, about Masami or the fact that he had left someone back in Japan.
“Those two people you were talking to before we arrived,” replied Yasuda, their jewelry-loving bassist.
“Yeah,” seconded Subaru, one of their weird vocalists. “You know, the ones who just left?”
“Oh!” Nino exclaimed in faked surprise. “Them. Some colleagues back then. I met them here coincidentally.”
“Are you sure?” asked Ohno, their other, equally weird but in a spacing-out kind of way, vocalist. “You looked kind of weird when you were looking at them leaving.”
“I’m fine,” Nino announced to the group that continued to eye him curiously. “I swear, I am.”
“If you’re sure,” Subaru started, although entirely unconvinced. “Then I guess we better go before we get found out.”
“Or Hina gets crazy which would end up with us getting found out,” Ohkura grinned, referring to their efficient but at-times wacked out manager.
“Yeah,” the others agreed. Nino nodded his head. But as their group headed out of the shop, he couldn’t help but look around and check if there’s even a glimpse of her around. There was none.
-----
“Ninomiya-san is your ex-boyfriend, right?” Ryo asked casually as he and Masami headed towards the parking lot to Ryo’s car.
Masami jumped. Her mind and heart had been raising since the two of them left the CD shop, no, actually, it started racing the moment she recognized Nino in that shop. And it still hadn’t slowed down enough for her to mutter anything coherently. All she could do was look at Ryo in surprise.
Technically speaking, she had already told Ryo about Nino, well, at least the fact that he was a former boyfriend and that they broke up because he left. But she doesn’t remember ever telling him Nino’s name.
“You’re brother told me his name was Nino,” Ryo supplied, seeing her questioning look. “I figured that Nino would be short for Ninomiya.”
“Why did my brother tell you?” Masami breathed out, finally finding her voice.
Ryo sighed before he let out a small chuckle. “One of his more ingenious ways of torturing me,” he told Masami. “I swear, your brother still does not like me.”
“He doesn’t like anyone for me,” she smiled, putting her hand to his cheek. “Don’t take it personal.”
“I try,” Ryo grinned, putting his hand over hers. “So, you all right?”
“Yeah,” Masami nodded. “I’m fine. Why do you ask?”
“You just looked a bit flustered, that’s all,” Ryo said and Masami almost gasped.
Instead, she shook her head and smiled. “No, I’m fine.”

okay! i honestly didn't think i'd be able to start on this story until, i don't know, two weeks from now... but i had some sort of (temporary) inspiration and i got around to plotting the whole storyline...
that's right! the whole story is already plotted which is why i know that it's going to have 8 chapters (about 3 more than the max i typed for the auction... but... well...)
to
kitsune_hikaru, hope you like it! though i'm not sure when i'd be able to post the next one... i'll try my best...
on another news, i have updated my original masterpost... i now have a listing for oneshots and drabbles, and another one for multi-chaps, both listings having a list of the characters involved plus a short summary... so check it out if you're interested...
on yet another news, i have made a
dreamwidth account, though at the moment, all i've done was to import all my posts here to there... i'm thinking that that account will have all my stories (including the ones i haven't posted here) just, you know, to put all of them in one place... i'm not sure when i'd be able to do that though... *smiles sheepishly*
on the final news *whew!*, Fujigaya Taisuke has now officially joined the list of my favorite Johnnys! yeah, even i didn't expect that... to be honest, i first noticed the guy during the 2009-10 Johnny's New Year Countdown Concert when they were backdancing for Tackey and Tsubasa... he was just so... noticeable! i mean with his face and that hair and all! but during the 2011-12 countdown, i ended up liking their debut song and i was amused by him... he looked, cool, i guess is the proper term... the guy can strut all right... also watched Misaki Number One for him but ended up liking the storyline... i thought it was Gokusen redux but it wasn't... plus i like Karina... and Kitayama Hiromitsu is actually cute... and this means i'm going to, pretty soon, write something on Fujigaya and Oomasa Aya because really! it's pretty obvious there was something there! come on! (or maybe it was just me? nonetheless! haha!)
anyway... back to the story above... tell me what you think...
comments are loved!
