from a sleep-deprived person...

Dec 23, 2010 06:17

remember my last post when i said i'm hoping to update One Chance with Aiba's birthday fic?
well, some hopes are meant to be dashed... and that is one of those hopes...

my older sister arrived a couple days back with her husband and kid to attend her sister-in-law's wedding... and while i love the fact that my nephew is here, it also unfortunately meant i haven't had a decent rest in the past few days (and just when i got back my momentum in writing...)... i'm tired, i'm dizzy, and i'm sleep-deprived... and yet my sister still thinks i have super powers and think i can do it all...

which means, no update for One Chance before Christmas... (will post one before New Year's though...)
i'm just glad i made Aiba's birthday fic before i was trapped in this dizzying event... and finished posted all of Learning from the Yoda too...

on brighter news, it is almost December 24 (in my country at least, posted earlier because i'm really, really sleepy and i don't think i can wait for midnight to strike and my feet hurts and yeah....) which means it is....

Aiba's Birthday! so....

to Arashi's resident Miracle Boy, animal lover and smiling face...

Happy Birthday Aiba-chan!!!

and since it's his birthday, it also means...

it's Christmas eve!

so...

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!
Enjoy the Holidays!

here's Aiba's birthday fic... :)

TITLE: Birthday Boy
CHARACTERS: Ohno Satoshi, Sakurai Sho, Aiba Masaki, Ninomiya Kazunari, Matsumoto Jun, Becky
PAIRING: Aiba/Becky (by the end)
RATINGS: PG
DISCLAIMER: The only thing i own in this story is the plot... and the title is generated by my sleep deprived and tired mind...
AUTHOR'S NOTE: a slightly different Aiba from the one i usually write...
SUMMARY: It was a quiet day at the Arashi greenroom, which in itself is already highly unusual.

It was a quiet day at the Arashi greenroom, which in itself is already highly unusual.

Well, to make it clear, it’s not like their greenroom regularly houses noises and explosions, nothing like that. After all, each of the five regular occupants of the room has a preferred activity of his own. But still, that level of quietness in the room is weird, especially considering the fact that one of the 4 members inside the room at the moment is Aiba Masaki.

“I’m getting coffee…” the aforementioned idol suddenly declared, standing up from where he was seated opposite Sho and headed to the door before anyone could say anything. Before he could reach out to open the door though, it opened without and in came Jun. Aiba didn’t say anything, he just nodded curtly to their youngest before he made his way out.

“What’s with Aiba?” Jun asked in confusion, his eyebrows furrowed.

“He’s getting coffee…” Sho supplied helpfully from behind his laptop.

“No, I mean what is with Aiba?” Jun repeated meaningfully, crashing next to Ohno on the sofa.

Sho looked up, and so did Ohno and Nino, and he sighed.

“I don’t know…” Sho admitted.

“He’s been a bit down…” Nino said. “It’s weird…”

Ohno nodded his agreement, worry written all over his 30 year old eyes. Jun caught Sho’s eyes and they both knew why. Aiba never has a down day. Never. He could be down for a few seconds, a few minutes even, but never for a whole day. And he’s been increasingly down for the past couple of days. Considering the season, that’s alarming. And considering what day it is, it’s even more disturbing.

After a while, Sho stood up and sighed. “I’m going to go talk to him…” he declared.
-----

Sho located him by the coffee vending machine, well, Aiba did say that he’s getting coffee. But Aiba wasn’t getting coffee, he didn’t even seem like he attempted to. He had his eyes closed as his forehead rested on the back of his hand that was holding onto the vending machine. He looked tired, Sho could easily say that, but there seems to be something more to it than that.

He must have felt his presence though since he looked up when he got close.

“Getting some coffee Sho-chan?” he asked in his usual tone, although a lot less lively than usual.

“Yeah…” Sho lied, as he stepped next to the younger idol. For a few moments, he focused on inserting his bill on the machine mainly because he didn’t really know what to say to the idol that was now standing next to the vending machine, leaning on the wall, with his eyes clothes.

“Here…” he added, giving him a cup of coffee.

Aiba opened his eyes a bit and looked at the cup before he gave a small smile and accepted it.

“Thanks Sho-chan…”

“Anoh… Is something wrong?” Sho started awkwardly. “You look a bit down…”

“I’m fine Sho-chan…” Aiba said, looking at him. “I’m just tired that’s all… I’ve been practicing for the drama all day…”

“Oh…” Sho mouthed. “I just thought… Well, anyway, if you have a problem, don’t hesitate to talk to me… You know I’m always here, right?”

Aiba forced himself to smile brightly as he placed an arm over his sloping shoulders. “I know Sho-chan… Don’t start worrying about me… I was just a bit tired, that’s all…”

“Okay…” Sho reluctantly nodded, sensing that there might be something more to it than what he’s being told.

“Good…” Aiba said. “Let’s go back to the greenroom?”
-----

When Aiba stepped back into the greenroom after practice sans Jun or Sho (who both stayed behind to have a discussion with their coordinator; Sho being a co-host for the event their performing at and Jun taking his absence in planning for their concert tour personally and deciding to have an active hand in their year end performances) he didn’t really notice much. He just went straight to the sofa (since Jun wouldn’t be coming yet) and tried to memorize some of his lines.

But while he was focused on his script, Ohno, seated at the other end of the sofa, and Nino, seated on his own chair, kept darting furtive glances to him and then to each other. It didn’t take long before he felt Ohno inching towards him, nudging him lightly by the shoulders.

“Oh-chan?” he asked, looking up to see their leader sitting next to him, a small pout on his lips.

“Are you all right?” he asked. “You’re not yourself…”

Aiba blinked fast a couple of times the moment he heard Ohno say this. Sho saying what he said earlier to him was something, but it was normal, he is after all their mother hen. But Ohno saying this is something else entirely. And it also means it’s something big if even Ohno is voicing out his concerns.

Throwing a questioning glance at Nino, he saw that the gamer has temporarily abandoned his DS and is watching him closely.

“He’s right…” Nino said when he saw him look. “There’s something different… Is there something we should know about?”

“No…”

“Are you sure?” Ohno insisted.

Aiba couldn’t help but smile lightly. “Of course Oh-chan…”

“Because the last time you were this different was when you were feeling chest pains years ago…” Nino supplied almost accusingly. “You also said that you were alright that time…”

“I’m not sick Nino-kun…” Aiba exclaimed. “I’m just a bit tired… That’s all… Really…”

“If you say so…” Nino shrugged as he returned to his game. “Because I’d kill you myself if you’re sick or something and you’re hiding it again…”

Aiba nodded, knowing that it’s Nino’s way of showing his concern. Just then Ohno hugged him and he hugged him back, knowing that it’s Ohno’s own version too.

“It’s almost as if you’re becoming Jun-kun when he’s serious…” Ohno said but amended it right away. “No, not Jun-kun, you’re not that scary… More like Sho-kun… It’s weird… I thought I’d be the only un-serious member of the group left…”

“I’m fine…” he assured the older guy.
-----

After that little encounter with Ohno and Nino, he knew that Jun would have his talk with him any moment now. And he knew that their youngest was heading there when he asked to hitch a ride in his service because his own has some vague car problems he’s not even sure he’s heard about. Jun said that the problem could be fixed but he wanted to go home already since it’s almost midnight. What he didn’t know, though, was how Jun would start his interrogation.

But when halfway through the ride to Jun’s place and Jun hadn’t said anything yet, he was feeling weird, especially since Jun was simply watching him the entire time.

A minute more and he couldn’t take Jun’s silent watch on him anymore. There was something eerie about it, he felt uncomfortable.

“I’m fine… There’s nothing wrong about me… I’m not sick… I promise!” he cried a few seconds later.

“I didn’t say anything…” Jun replied.

“Yeah…” he said sheepishly. “But you were thinking it… Besides Sho-kun, Ohchan and Nino-kun had all talked to me already, it’s impossible to think that you wouldn’t…”

“You think?” Jun simply asked. He couldn’t think of a good answer to that so he simply sighed and sat back on his seat, enveloping them in silence.

“I just feel pressured…” he said after a while. And the moment he said that, the words won’t stop flowing from his lips. “Sure this isn’t my first drama but it’s like there’s a much bigger expectation on me now… And I know I shouldn’t be worrying about expectations and stuff like that but it’s sort of bugging me… Sure I’m used to being in the spotlight but you guys are always there with me… This time, it’s like, I don’t know, different… I kept worrying about what if I don’t measure up to their expectations? And then there’s the fact that I haven’t been that good with my bartending skills… I actually doubt if accepting this project was a good idea…”

He heaved a deep sigh the moment those words left his lips, those have been his recurring thoughts for a while now.

“You shouldn’t be worrying too much of what others think…” Jun started quietly after a while. “When I started Hanadan, most of the people thought I shouldn’t have been chosen, that I didn’t fit, look at what happened… I think, if you aim for you own expectations, to simply do your best, then there’s a higher chance of you to succeed…”

Aiba felt himself nodding. He already told himself what the younger idol was telling him, but somehow, it’s a lot more comforting hearing it in his voice.

“Besides…” Jun added in a small smile. “The four of us is still going to be there… We’re not going anywhere you know… We’d still be with you…”

“Yeah…” he ended up smiling. “I’ve been acting quite stupid lately huh…”

“You always are…” Jun laughed. “It’s just weird since you’re serious while you were at it…” Jun added and he too laughed. Before he could say anything though, the car pulled to a stop in front of Jun’s apartment and the younger idol declared “I’m here… Thanks for the ride…”

“Yeah…”
-----

He was feeling considerably better when he entered his apartment as compared to when he left it earlier, his talks with the other four members easing him out a bit of his worries. He was making them worry and that was the last thing he wanted to do. And he had already decided that he should be going back to his normal self.

He was still thinking about that when someone came out of his kitchen, startling him.

“You’re late!” Becky declared, a hand on her hips as her other hand pointed towards the clock that read a couple minutes before midnight.

“Hey!” he exclaimed, a smile lighting up his features as he stepped towards her. “I didn’t know you were coming here…”

“I don’t have to tell you everything you know…” Becky laughed. “Why are you this late?”

“Oh… I dropped Jun-kun by his place because his service had a problem…” he said, placing an arm over the girl’s shoulders. “Why didn’t you say you we’re coming over?”

“It’d be pointless surprise if I told you about it, wouldn’t it?” she smiled. “Anyway, are you hungry? I made some bake macaroni…”

He wasn’t really but still he nodded and said “Yes…”

Before they could enter the kitchen though, Becky took one more glance at the clock.

“Wait!” she exclaimed, stopping him on his tracks. The next thing he knew, she was kissing him on the lips.

They were the showy type of a couple (to their closest friends and to each other at least) but they weren’t really the kissy type. This is why he was quite taken aback when she did that.

He raised an eyebrow at her, noting that there was a hint of a blush in her cheeks. And then she chuckled.

“Happy birthday Aiba Masaki!” she grinned.

Aiba’s eyebrows furrowed. Taking a quick glance at the clock, and then at the calendar, he realized that it is, already, the 24th.

Looking back at Becky, she saw that she was almost chuckling, realizing that he’s forgotten his own birthday. Before she could say anything though, he leaned down to capture her lips.
