i've finally submitted my entry on arashi_on's 100 word essay writing contest. yaay! i had fun writing it.
but i now completely realize why none of my teachers/instructors would ever emphasize on me any minimum-word requirement for any essay or speech we are required to make. because it is practically guaranteed that i would be well over the limit in the first place!
i was even afraid that i'd have a fewer word entry since i just removed my old word application and had to use notepad instead but much to my surprise, when i submitted my entry, it said that my comment can not be posted since it was over 4300 words! i had to edit and re-edit it just so it can be within in word limit.
just thought it would be fun posting the actual un-edited "article" on why i love the five...
why do i love arashi?
first of all, as a group, they are really fun to watch, very funny and entertaining. i can not remember a single show that i've watched with them in it that i hadn't cracked up in laughter, or suddenly see myself smiling. and the good thing is, you can actually see that they seem to be enjoying themselves in whatever antics they are doing as much as the audience is enjoying it. the very first thing i saw with all five of them was a youtube clip of one of their concerts and i was first amazed on concert props they are using. i was, and still am, in awe of the "moving stage". then i saw how energetic they are with their dances and with getting the crowd pumped up. i thought, "these guys are great! a concert more or less totals to about 2 to 3 hours yet they still are hyper!".
then came their variety shows and i was completely and utterly captivated. it was like everything runs the other way around for them. where else can you see the eldest/leader dozing off most of the time? or the most muscular being actually the least athletic of the group? or the tallest of the group having the most child-like antics? or the youngest-looking (i actually thought he was the youngest) to be a brat to all his elders? or the youngest of the group be the scariest of them all? i can go on and on but i think you get the drift...
individually, there is also a lot to love about this group.
ohno satoshi, a.k.a. riida, is, and has always been the most unique leader i've ever seen in my entire existence. the leader who actually does nothing and is the most quiet of them all. yet behind the quiet exterior is a whole bunch of talents that proves that there is more to the person than what meets the eye. i've always heard that ohno had the best voice amongst them through all my readings but it was when i heard "kotobayori.." that i was completely thrown aback. i originally thought that his voice had improved throughout the years but when i saw that they were actually still quite young during "kotobayori" i was stunned. i think it was the first time i really focused on an individual's voice in their songs and it was great. his talents are indeed something to be in awe of, his voice, his dancing, his art, and even his fishing. but what i love most about him would be his attitude towards those that he loves the most, his art, his fishing, his mother. i actually know quite a lot of mama's boy out there but he's probably the coolest mama's boy there is. and yes, i was one of those who was really moved when he was overcome by emotion during their concert in kokuritsu.
sakurai sho. to me, he was already noticeable since he does the raps of their songs but when i found out that he was also a newscaster, i was like "huh?! wait! FOR REAL?!". in my country, those two genres do not mix, at all, and i was amazed on how he was able to pull it off. his dedication to his studies is also one thing that is admirable about this man, having the ability to do both his studies and his career at the same time. yet for someone who seems to be highly intellectual, he is not afraid of showing off his follish and weak sides and is not afraid to be made of fun by his other members.
aiba masaki was to me the least recognizable of the group at first. but soon enough, i realized what i think everyone already knows, that arashi is not arashi without anyone of the members, one of those is named aiba masaki. he's really energetic and he has the most contagious laugh i've heard off. he acts foolish and and has weird and out-of-this-world ideas which made watching them a whole lot more fun and exciting. somehow, with him in it, one could always expect something to happen one way or the other. the group's most energetic person also moved me to tears when i saw his letter in 24 hour tv and i realized that he too is a very affectionate person.
ninomiya kazunari has so many admirable talents enveloped on his small frame. aside from his singing and acting skills, he's also a superb actor and a skillful musical player having the ability to play numerous musical intsruments and compose songs at the same time but still is a self-confessed gamer. his playful snaps during their talks and variety shows always leaves its viewers laughing, making things more interesting and enjoyable. one thing i would always remember about this guy is their never-ending "yaaaaay-ing" moments in his camera during the how's it going tour. his answers in interview questions also are something that leaves me amazed at this guy, that though he may sound vague or consufing at times, he has really deep views and meanings deep within his words.
matsumoto jun is my first and primary reason on why i got hooked on the group in the first place. it is pretty hard for me to be hooked into something to begin with, but because of him, i got hooked on three things simultaneously; him, hanadan, and most recently, arashi as a whole. some say that he does things a little bit too much or sometimes does things a bit over the limit, but somehow, i think it is how he shows how dedicated he is to his craft, which is one of the things a truly like about this person. whatever genre it may be, he will always give his best to do what is needed to be done perfectly. i also love that behind the scary/tough exterior is passionate and sweet. i lvoe it that he always thinks about his friends and of arashi and of the fans. in the things that he does, he never ceases to amaze me. he may seem to be a bit overwhelming at times but he is truly somebody anyone can look up to and say proudly that s/he admires him.
but above all, i think, what's really lovable about this group is how different they are from the other groups out there. it is where i've seen the youngest scolding the oldest, where they are not afraid to expund on every mistakes they've done and make light of it, where they seem to be just doing things normally, like the camera is not even rolling at all. i live in a place where the members of the entertainment industry seems to try too much to maintain the aura they are presenting (and failing at that, may i say) yet these guys are willing to do anything yet remain to be at that admirable stage. they've gone a long way and by no means was it an easy journey but they made it worth the while.
the group that seemed to have been created without a fixed plan in mind, this group is lovable because they are loved as a group. of course, there are those who has their ichibans and i, myself, have one. but the thing is, matsujun is indeed my ichiban, but the other four will always have a moment wherein they will come up and steal the spotlight (which would then return to matsujun after some time). and whether someone else grabs that spotlight away or not, the others are still there, loved, and there is no one who can be said to be the least loved of them all. after all, arashi comprises of all five of them, not just one, two, three, or four, but all five and they all are in agreement of that. they stand at the height of which they are standing now, yet their still are still firmly planted on the ground. these are the reasons why i do love arashi.
wow! i can blab! should have finished it earlier if my best friend hadn't arrived. we went on watching arashi videos and she is completely in love with ohno right now.
