Worries--and also happiness

The past few days have been rather mixed. I've found some papers (namely, some properties about EXIT charts) extremely helpful to my current research work, and I finally sorted out most of the messy stuff about broadcast channels, dirty paper coding, duality, Thomlinson-Harashima, etc. Not being a believer of the TIMTOWTDI philosophy, I find it very satisfying to discover that two algorithms are essentially the same, even though they look so different on the surface.

And Papa has been soooo good to me! I have been too busy to go home, and he came, twice, in the past few weeks, bringing me nice stuff to eat and warm encouragements--something I dreadfully want in the past month and which now comes so seldomly from the advisors. He is also helping me book the plane tickets, which, due to the visa uncertainty, is now rather difficult to handle.

But, oh, why isn't the visa ready even yet? Right now I prefer not going, but either way is far better such uncertainty. And the advisor has been so cool to me, presumably because of some disagreement in research directions and on how much time should be spent writing papers. Well, perfect happiness is hard to come by these days...

life, study, visa
