My advisor told me yesterday that due to one of my harsh reviews, he had decided to give it a rejection. Well, I think my review is justified (as long as I didn't make any horrible mistakes...but I did check very carefully!), but a flat-out rejection might be--just a bit--too much, for it really wasn't THAT bad compared to most papers on similar journals, just that it had tried to improve upon an idea that was not actually as interesting or useful as the author had thought. I do feel sorry for the poor student, if the paper get rejected after all.
