30 Days of Knitting - Day 2

Day 2: What is currently on your needles?
Right now I am mainly knitting a commission for my friend Jon - a Dr Who scarf, as worn by Tom Baker in series 12.5. I'm making it in Rowan Pure Wool DK, 15 balls in total and it will be 9 feet long unblocked. Normally garter stitch tends to only show the purl rows, but in the TV show the knit rows between the purl rows could be easily seen so I will need to hang or stretch the scarf when I block it to achieve that look. This will make the scarf longer than 9 feet but I don't know by how much yet.

The last finishing touch will be the tassels. I've not done tassels before, but there are some great instructions and a video on the website and it looks very simple to do.

Sadly I noticed last night that I dropped a stitch about 175 rows back but I still had the right number on the next row up, so I must've dropped it, noticed right away, picked it up but not reknitted the row it had dropped from. Fixing dropped stitches in garter stitch is massively annoying because you have to keep taking the crochet hook out to either turn the hook or the work after you pick up each row. After spotting that mistake, I counted my stitches for my own sanity and realised that I was still a stitch down so I traced up from the beginning of the scarf and found that I had completely dropped another stitch about 190 rows back. That's going to be so much harder to fix because I'm going to have to pull enough slack out of each row to make up the missing stitch. Ugh :( It's very unlike me, I've hardly ever dropped a stitch in the 3 years that I've been knitting so I don't know what's made me start now!

Anyway, once that faff is sorted (I foresee hours bent over my crochet hook!) I'm almost 40% done. I should get lots more done over my Christmas holiday.
