Oh my GOD. I took Serenity to meet the parents because she's the only person who seems to be able to keep me calm and happy these days. It was just a casual thing and when Mum opened the door, nothing was strange. Until Father walked in and flipped out.

I dunno what to do about Serenity really, but maybe if you call your folks (or you mum anyway) and see how they're doing, it will help you figure out what to do next.

Mum was hysterical, but she is rather fond of hysterics. I'm too embarrassed to call them.

I dunno, I think you have the least to be embarrassed about out of anyone. You didn't (unknowingly) sleep with your friend's dad, and you didn't have an affair with someone your daughter's age. You're the clean party in this.

That's my mummy. I don't take after her in that regard at all.

But I brought her there on the one day a year they were going to pretend to still like each other.

You didn't put them in the situation where they had to pretend though. Take it from me: it's not always your job to be accountable for your parents. Just because you're a grown-up now, doesn't mean they get to stop being grown-ups.
