He hated family outings. His older siblings weren’t interested in him. Their parents left them alone most of the time. He wanted to be with his father but he was rarely around. Nothing made a difference except that they were in an exclusive resort. He was going to be so bored.
While creating sand castles in the beach, he was approached by another little girl. She was wearing a yellow dress and flip-flops. “That’s pretty,” said the girl. “Your Mommy and Daddy will like it.”
“No, they’re not here.” His voice was cold. Everyone in their family knew that he didn’t like strangers. “They won’t see it.”
She smiled. “My mommy is not here either. What’s your name? I’m Tomoyo Daidouji.”
“I’m Kyouya Ohtori,” he replied, unsure. The little girl plopped down on the sand and stared into the distance. She looked like she wasn’t going anywhere soon. The dark-haired boy decided that a good offense is the best defense. “Where are your parents?”
“Mommy has work so she sent me here first with my bodyguards,” Tomoyo said cheerfully. She pointed to a group of black-clad women who were a stone’s throw away from them. Her voice quivered a bit. “Daddy just died. A-And I don’t have anyone.”
He was shocked but he hid it quickly. His plan backfired on him. The little boy looked at her curiously. If she was here in an exclusive resort then it meant that she was just like him. “I’m sorry to hear that. How long will you stay here?”
The heiress smiled. “A few days, I think. Mommy won’t be here until tomorrow. I don’t have any friends so I might spend all of my time in my room. It’s a shame because the sky is so blue and the ocean is so beautiful…”
Kyouya gazed at her thoughtfully before he smiled back. “Come now, don’t say that. I’ll be your friend.”
His reward was her most beautiful smile. Somehow it eased the weight in his chest. He was not going to hate his family because he was lucky that his parents and siblings were alive. For now, he was going to enjoy his time with his new friend.
“It’s nice to meet you, Ohtori-san,” she said formally but her eyes were dancing “Please take care of me.”
