Christmas Food and Traditions What's Yours?

So I thought since I haven't really posted for awhile, I work in retail and you can imagine I have no time to do anything.  I'll be doing some writing as soon as this holiday season is over. :)

I thought asking everyone what their holiday traditions are would be a cool thing to read about.  I'd like to know what kinds of food you eat  and what you do to celebrate.  I've learned that sometimes you pick up really neat ideas from what other people do and when we live in different countries there's bound to be some differences.  If you don't celebrate Christmas in your country give me the closest type celebration I think it would be awesome to get to know everyone better and see the different cultural celebrations across the world.

This is mine.

For three generations we've celebrated the family Christmas on Christmas Eve.  We started out at my grandmother's house and when she passed away it moved to mom's house.  My parents have a small home so about seven years our family outgrew the tiny living room and it moved to my house so everyone comes here. We eat and open presents and eat some more.  Now when my kids were small we would have present opening from Santa on Christmas Day, now that my youngest knows about Santa we do it on Christmas Eve after all the family leaves.

My parents started the tradition of wrapping our presents in different color wrapping paper so they wouldn't have to put tags on them.  There were three of us and I think it was giving them writers cramp.  I took the tradition a little further and decided that on the plate of crumbs after Santa ate the cookies he'd leave a note with a snippet of each paper (I have three kids too) explaining which paper was for which kid, and thanking them for the goodies.

The first year I did this my kids were so thrilled to get a note back from Santa and served the purpose of telling them which paper to look for without them trying to figure out how mama and daddy knew.  :)  So I've done it every year since.

I forgot the tree!  We put ours up about a week and a half before Christmas.  My mom started giving me and my siblings brass ornaments every year, and has continued the tradition with my kids so we have upwards of a hundred or more.  Although over the years it's not always been brass now there's the colored and 3D ornaments as well.  We add candy canes of all types and red ribbons to the tree to fill in and add more color.  The kids take their ornaments as they move out. I bought a prelit tree two years ago so all I have to add is the silver garland and my kids finish it up with their ornaments.

Also before we open presents someone (usually one of the kids) reads the birth of Christ from the Bible.  It's always a big thing to be the one to read it.

Now as far as foods, this is what we have.  If anyone wants to know what something is or what's in it ask and I'll be glad to tell you.
I usually handle everything but this year I've had a hard schedule right up to Christmas Eve so I'm getting some help in the dessert area, and the extras from my sister in law.
