It just keeps getting worse

Another horrible day at work. I went in thinking it would be a good day, since my shift was only 4.25 hours long, but no. I had one customer who wanted to return his non-working cellphone without a receipt and without the packaging. We explained to him that we're not supposed to return items without the UPC on them in some capacity (he called before he came in and apparently we forgot to tell him that because it was insanely busy at the desk and one of the softlines people answered the phone while I was dealing with fifty different people). Finally one of the managers offered him an even exchange, but we would have to keep the packaging from the new phone so we could return the damaged phone to the manufacturers. He seemed to accept this at first, but when I started ringing it up, he claimed that he wanted the packaging. One of the other managers then had to deal with him, and he stood there for, like, fifteen minutes snarling and arguing with her. I finally turned away and started dealing with people who were actually in line.

The only silver lining from this entire situation was that the other customers who were listening to this tirade were actually agreeing with us. There was one lady in line who kept giving me very sympathetic looks, clearly all, "You poor thing, having to deal with this SOB." Then after the man and his girlfriend/wife/whatever finally left, one of the other customers said that the guy was very likely trying to scam us, the way he was behaving. He did leave, as I said, though he was threatening to call the corporate office and complain about us and whatnot. When my shift mercifully ended, I walked by the Personnel office and heard three of the managers talking. Our head manager saw me walk by and he asked me if I was handling everything all right, and I said yeah, but I was exhausted. One of the other managers, the one who had to deal with the tirade, said I shouldn't worry. If the guy DID call corporate, they would likely side with us because we were following policy.

This past weekend I sent my resume to a library one county over where they had two librarian positions open in Youth Services. I got an email back about it where they stated that they'd be looking at the resumes on the 17th and would be setting up interviews for January. I pray, pray, pray that they'll call me. I HAVE to get out of this job before I completely lose it. I get that I'll still have to deal with unpleasant people like this guy in a library setting as well, but I'd rather deal with them in that setting than in a store like this.

As if that incident wasn't enough, there was a huge crowd, one of our registers was down the entire time I was there, though it was supposedly fixed just as I was leaving. Cashiers were also yelling for me every five minutes it seems. Good luck to the rest of the shifts. Thank god I'm off tomorrow. I need a break, big time.

There needs to be more happy fic in the world when people have to go through things like this in RL.
