It feels... patchworky. Like it was thrown together. The plotholes in this thing were enormous. Not to mention that practically the entire premise of this episode is based on a huge fuck-up in an alternate reality. Lame, very lame.
The wormhole travel thing was obviously pulled out of someone's ass. *eyeroll* Such a cop-out. If they weren't going to give it proper attention, then they should have just had Carson struggle heroically to coax enough energy to get Atlantis to Earth in time. Sometimes simpler is better.
And speaking of Carson, two scenes? That's it? WTF? Why the hell didn't they have him on the balcony in the final scene? *fumes* Would have been nice to let him say something at the end so I could freaking recall that he was there. *headdesk*
Ronon's death was actually quite gut-wrenching, watching Teyla shriek his name and Rodney wibble over his body. Then it was all ruined. After Lorne dragged them out and there was that last shot of Ronon's body? Jason Momoa had that whole cross-eyed thing going on. I started laughing and didn't stop for a minute or two. Then they took the easy way out and had Underling revive him. Not that I'm not pleased to see Ronon alive, but still, hitting the reset button much?
The whole 'Wraith going to Earth' thing is kind of overdone (since they did the same thing at the end of Season 2/beginning of Season 3), but it does have a kind of symmetry to it. Red Queen from Rising sought the information from Sumner, and the humans have struggled the entire series to keep that information from the Wraith throughout the series. The Wraith almost made it once, then made it all the way at the end, but were still stopped. So yeah, could have done without it, but I get why they did it.
Now, for all my bitching complaining, there were some good things:
Davis, where the fuck have you been these past years? *hugs him*
Renaming the Phoenix the Hammond and the tribute to Don S. Davis was lovely.
John's traditional solution when things get uber-bad: sacrifice himself, say something sad and yet profound, find a way out, save the "dead" friend, get out, go for coffee. Some things never change.
Adieu, Atlantis. You delighted me, annoyed me, and broke my heart, but I love you all the same. Adieu.
