Since I've been on the subject of reccing stories lately, I figured I should take the time to do this after having put it off for so long. Procrastination can only last so long. ;)
Aside from reading SGA and SG-1 and the occasional LotR and Star Wars when I've run out of SGA and SG-1, I also happen to adore reading historical fiction. And would you believe it? I found an excellent historical fiction writer at ff.net. Shock, gasp, omgwtf, holy tomato on a stick, and other such exclamations!
Arsinoe de Blassenville has written several historical pieces using The Patriot of all movies as a template. Often enough, she corrects the dates and the other enormous historical fuck ups blunders and digs deep into the life of William Tavington, giving him the backstory that was only hinted at in the movie, as well as his own grand adventures aside from chasing after Benjamin Martin and doing other crazy shit that never happened omfg.
The first story of hers that I read was her long story Et In Arcadia Ego, where she keeps to the idea that William Tavington was based on Banastre Tarleton and permits him to live beyond the movie's final battle (which has its own pile of inaccuracies). Arsinoe (or Susan Carhart as her fics are sometimes listed under) portrayed everything beautifully.
Her latest story, Tavington's Heiress, is still a work-in-progress that she updates weekly, and gives us a look at a more-flawed Tavington that sends him down a completely different path than the one previously shown in EiAE. The story is forty-three chapters long right now, with who knows how many more to come, and is definitely worth reading.
She has several other stories there as well (including an AU Harry Potter fic that was also a great deal of fun to read) that are also worth looking at. I cannot stress enough how wonderful her stories are. When you have a rainy day or just a day with nothing to do, take a look at what she has posted. There is even some outstanding original fiction on her website that is a great deal of fun.
Enjoy!
