A Weekend of Harry Potter

Jul 22, 2007 22:07

esperance07 came and visited me for the weekend. We kept busy as hell but had a lot of fun. It was nice to chat and really hang out. We haven't done that since I was in school. Keeping with the theme of Harry Potter, I logged our adventures in chapters. And just a FYI: I haven't had a chance to read the 7th book of H.P. so don't spoil it for me.

I reserved the Harry Potter 7 book at Borders and they were having a Grand Hallows Ball, which we were in attendance. Both of us dressed up, she as a witch and I as a death eater, with my inspiration coming from the fourth movie costumes. I thought I did well with ordering a temporary dark mark tattoo for my left forearm and a wraith, half-mask that looked like a skull. I had a pointed top princess hat that I cut the veil off and we used my heavy, black cloak with the huge hood to make the pointed top look. Underneath I wore all black with black gloves, my hair pinned up. You could see nothing but skull mask, black cloak and the dark mark. I definately look diabolical. We got there around 11pm and waited until nearly 2 am for our books! It was quite insane. All I can say is my death eater mood was out by 1 am and I creeped out quite a few children and adults. Esperance didn't reserve the book anywhere and I was able to obtain 2 copies at checkout and 2 posters, making it her birthday gift.

Saturday we went to Brookfield Zoo. We took the train, since the weekend pass was only 5 bucks and I would never be able to drive and park at the zoo for that much. We saw many exhibits, but the most rememberable was the wild, free roaming upset peacock, petting the stingrays and the dolphin show. I also enjoyed the primates and reptiles exhibits. Overall, the day was pleasant and the crowds weren't too bad. The zoo closed at 6pm and we took the train back and grabbed dinner at an Irish pub with terrific food.

After dinner we went and saw Harry Potter 5 movie on the IMAX screen at the 12:15 am showing. There was only 4 of us in the entire movie. I thought there would be way more people than that, considering the movie has only been out for a week or so. This was the second time I've seen it. I picked up more things that I missed the first time around. I still think its just an okay movie. But it is better than the 3rd and better than the 5th book. At least the angry theme with Harry is kept throughout and even with many things missing, the story flowed well. I LOVED the 20 minute battle scene at the Department of Mysteries. That was sweet. I also liked seeing Lucius Malfoy and the Death Eaters in action. He's such a bad ass. I enjoyed the casting of Luna Lovegood, Tonks, and Bella as well.
