[ Character's Age ] : 17
[ Series ] : Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
[ Canon Point ] : Post-game [Amane Route]

[ History ] :
Most of the plot here, Amane route here.

[ Personality ] :
Katsu is a generally easygoing guy. He likes listening to music, video games, teasing his cousin, and reading. He seems to make friends easily enough, though how many of those he personally considers friends he'd trust with his life is... debatable. It doesn't really matter that much, though. He'll do a good deal to help out other people anyway, even when he doesn't expect to be paid back for it. If someone hurts him emotionally, he might sulk over it a bit, but only something really severe can make him hold a grudge.

He tends to be a little bit of a private person, though. Often, he needs other people to pull him out of his polite shell and get him to actually express what he's feeling. He doesn't like to trouble other people with his problems if he can help it, and so quietly worries about things when they're stressing him. Other people come first, after all. If asked, he'd say that he likes to listen to other people's stories more than tell his own. You can't understand anything if you don't shut up and listen sometimes, after all.

However, since the Lockdown, he's had to engage Leader Mode more often than he'd like. He's seen people die right in front of him, often violently and sometimes not even at the hands of demons - he's seen more than one person shot by a corrupt police officer or SDF member. This has... worn on him, and made it hard for him to be quite the same sort of quiet person he used to be. If he sees someone in trouble, he'll try to help them - and won't always think through his strategy until he gets there. That said, he's not dumb, and can generally think on his feet well enough to finish or get out of a fight with... a minimum of injury.

His relationship with Naoya is… complicated, though. Now that he knows about Naoya's curse, he wants to help his cousin - his brother. He wants to help break the curse, by convincing God that enough is enough. Cain should rest. He initially agreed to become the Messiah to stop the fighting - he thought Naoya's way would just lead to more death and destruction. He wants the best for everyone, but the idea of a family member trapped in an endless cycle of death and rebirth breaks his heart. He can't let it go on, and so he quietly bears his responsibilities as Messiah, waiting for the day he can make his case to the Almighty.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:
+ He is pretty damn skilled at magic, followed by his speed.
+ His magic set is pretty varied.
+ His strength is also better than a normal human's, though not his strongest area.
+ He's very strong in his convictions, and his belief in what is right drives him to help people.
+ He can sort of sense power, but only when it's very strong.

Weaknesses:

- His endurance is not his strongest point. Since he prefers to attack from afar with spells, he doesn't take punches that well.
- He closes himself off from people sometimes, preferring to focus on their problems rather than his own, which sometimes causes him to strain himself too far.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
He kind of gives off a 'holy' feel, due to being the Messiah and all.

[ Sample ] :
Katsu stood on top of one of the buildings, gazing down at Tokyo. He wanted to protect them, and all people, but… this Messiah business wasn't what he had imagined it to be. He had wanted to guide people, not punish them. He had to learn how to harden his heart against the sinners, but learning how to do that was… difficult. The angels had said that it was because he was Abel, but he didn't think that was all of it. He still had trouble grasping that he had been this… as far as he had known his whole life, this character in a religious book that he had never even followed. As far as he was concerned, he was still Katsu… even if Naoya didn't seem to think so.

He frowned. He hadn't been able to find Naoya since they fought. He was probably running - or at least that's what Katsu hoped he was doing. He had caused a lot of death and destruction by providing the Shomonkai with the Demon Summoning Program, and if the human authorities didn't have the evidence to punish him, then God's authorities would probably be after him sooner or later, in this lifetime or the next.

… He had to stop thinking about that. The future wasn't set in stone, right? Hopefully God would listen to His Messiah. Katsu could tell, just from how Naoya had yelled at him, how much he was hurting. And it hurt him, to think of his cousin - his brother - in that much pain. He wanted to make things all right for him. Naoya had protected him for all those years, taken care of him when his parents couldn't, taught him and raised him and given him the means to survive the Lockdown… he wanted to repay Naoya for the kindness he had shown him, even if he didn't want to admit that it was kindness.

An angel landed soundlessly on the building next to him, its voice soft and melodic. "The Lord has orders for you, Messiah. Your period of rest is over for now, there is work to be done."

He sighed, and nodded. "All right. Let's go."

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] :

I don't know if we can reason that he can cast spells without a COMP - I'm open to discussion with mods on this point. |Db

Mark: The front of his right shoulder.
