Just a quick rundown...

Yesterday started out like shit. Since I am the only ones in the office that works in every department, I was the one they went to when the night-time operations guy needed a day off. I said I would cover, because what else am I going to say? Night-time operations isn’t that hard, but the waiting for the finally delivery from the courier is a wait some nights.

So, as I arrive at work two hours later than usually (in order to cover the shift) and after ten hours of sleep (which is a rarity - I experience difficulties sleeping), I see my co-worker James, my walking buddy, walking out with a box of copy paper. I thought it odd that he was carrying copy paper since it’s not part of any job description I know to supply paper. He goes for the hug and it dawns on me: he has been laid off.

Talk about a way to start the day. What do you say? You brought it on yourself? He picked up some very bad habits under R’s supervision and timecard fraud eventually caught up with him. I felt bad, but I called it back when the first talk of lay-offs happened at work.

He called me later to let me know he talked to Insane-o while waiting for his ride. Insane-o said he wouldn’t be the only person laid-off in the department.

Great.

However, while it started out awkward and stressful, it ended on a lovely note. After the courier and locking up the office, I accompanied Hubby to the local Mexican eatery. We noticed a few months ago that they advertised a live Mariachi band on Friday nights. I was not disappointed. Yes, a six member band (two guitars, two horns and two violins) band was wonderful! Oh, and they wore huge belt buckles and silver buttons down the side of their pants. Heee! I’m such a geek and so easily entertained.

No cowboy boots or spurs though. Good.

When they came to our table, the lead asked what we would like to hear. I suggested their favorite song since I had not idea what to ask for (must research mariachi songs later). The lead violinist chose “The Avocado”, though they said the Spanish name first and explained the meaning afterwards. It was an upbeat, fun song with very passionate lyrics.

I have to go to Mexico. If they’re that passionate about the avocado, I would love to see what else they are passionate about.

And the food - I don’t need to tell you about the food. As always, it was delicious beyond words.

While my husband didn’t kiss me goodbye this morning, I woke after a good night’s sleep (without the need for sleep aids). Hurray for superhero/underwear pervert cartoons on Saturday morning. I like the new Spider-man.
