Do you believe if you work harder enough, you can succeed at anything?

Or do you have limitations that will prevent you from obtaining your goal?

Discuss.

ANYTHING?

Nope - there are some literally impossible things that you can't do. I couldn't - for example - become US President, no matter how hard I work(ed) at it.

Neither could I run a marathon due to physical limitations... no matter how hard I work(ed) at it.

And as a further example verging into ludicrous realms, neither could I give birth (!)

But leaving aside those (and similar) examples, yeah, I genuinely believe that the harder you work at something (the word harder could be 'smarter' to be fair) the more likely you are to achieve it.

Ah. I should have taxed on the "physical limitation" clause. :-)

Physical limitations aside...

Okay. Please allow me to pick your brain: how do you know when to apply "working harder/smarter" and when to know your limits?

You don't in advance. It's a decision made anew every time you have to make a judgement call.

And let me guess: there's no way to know if you've made the right decision until it's too late?

Not exactly - most times you don't know for weeks, if not months, afterwards.

Is that a cry of disbelief, or of distress?

More of a grunt of indecision. I still can't see what it is I should do or even can do. And right now, failing isn't much of an option.
