9/11

Sep 11, 2007 20:17

A friend of mine's niece was advised not to take a trip to Florida where she had free room and board because it would require her to fly on September 11th.

Congratulations should be extended to Al Qaeda. They won.

Yes, it's 9/11 again. I wore a low cut top to show off my cleavage, went to work and earned an obscene wage for being "only a woman," bought Starbucks and Cheetos, talked on my cell, cussed, laughed and carried on about my day as I would any other being an American. Yes, I know what happened six years ago; I can still remember the entire day with unusual clarity.

I watched a special on the History Channel. I'll dig out my favorite picture book about it.

I used to be angry about it - at the men who flew the plans, at the people who planned it. Today, I realized I'm no longer mad at them. I angry at my fellow countrymen who are cowards. I am angry at those who feel the fear the terrorists wanted us to fear.

I am angry at every politician that justifies the Iraq War with 9/11. I'm angry at every politician who uses 9/11 to promote whatever agenda they have.

But what I am most angry about is the fact that most media and people focus on the tragedy. Yes, people died. Yes, we should still miss and mourn them, but equal time to every beautiful moment of humanity that happened that day should be touted as loudly. While about half a dozen men died trying to bring this country down, uncountable thousands did miracles on that day. People were saved, people helped, people were heroes in one of the most feared cities in the world.

It was a terrible, horrible day. It was a wondrous, beautiful day. The best and worst of humanity clashed one day in NYC. Time will tell which one wins.
