So, this was my first week doing observations in the school I was assigned to. I have to admit it was pretty strange and it felt weird when kids started calling me 'teacher'. Of course they're not 'kids', I've got ninth and eleventh graders so they're far from kids, though I got fourth graders as well. I asked the woman in charged of the English department and she told me it was possible for me to have high school and one in elementary school. Which I think it's going to be one...rough ride. But I am full of expectations and whatnot so...I'm all for it.
Besides, I wanted to experience both Elementary and High school. This was also the first time I was assigned to teach a class, it was in ninth grade and...it was awful, I felt nervous and terrified but I got there all serious and kind of ...evil...It was actually funny once I got out of there and think about it. I made a lot of mistakes...all the mistakes I told myself I wouldn't make. There was specially a group who was all defiant and un-willing to do anything at all and I got really serious with them tried to make them work but they wouldn't do the work I told them to do. So I ignored them and started helping and check the other groups. I made them work in pairs, but before that I introduced myself made some of them introduced themselves and...well, I noticed I still A LOT of work to do to maintain the discipline. While I got them to listen to the instructions there were some who just wouldn't shut up!!
All in all, it was a good week...got to be in charge of the oral exams from one of the grades I'm observing and they seemed to started believing that I am, in fact, a teacher.
I'm getting more confident (at least more so that when I first arrived to the school) and...well, it is a new experience for me the fact that I am not doing friends with them (the students) but that I am like a figure of authority and respect....a teacher.
Guess that's all for today. Maybe I would put something else if I think it necessary.
