Saw the movie. Finished the book (a long time ago. I r so lay-z.)
Honestly, I should probably wait and re-read the whole series before I give any sort of insight on the last book... because I'm sure there are things that I'm missing, there have to be, for me to feel so utterly dissatisfied with the end. o.o; For all the emotional turmoil we've gone through throughout the series, the ending seemed awful dry and superficial to me. Also had the distinct air of being rushed. :P
1) Subplots. WTF. Dumbledore/Hallows subplots seemed rushed and thrown together. I had a small panic attack wondering how in the name of hell she was going to tie up all these new loose ends in addition to all the hordes of old ones... as it turned out, she tied them up fine, while the endings to all the deeper, longer plots that we've been mucking our way through for all these years seemed, to me, really messily covered...
Example: Snape. ...So sorry... I thought it was pretty weak. I can see him being Dumbledore's man because he simply decides he's on the wrong team, superfluous though it may sound-- I'd buy that way more readily than a failed unrequited love story. I'm pretty sure that the former reason is the "true" reason he worked so closely with Dumbledore and so on, but trying to say that he only helped because he wanted the child that the woman he loved had with the man he hated.... yeah, I didn't buy it.
2) H/D LIVES. That, for me, made the whole book-- although of course, there are parts that could be expanded on. ;)
3) Everyone feels the same about the epilogue, and I'm there on the side of the fence that's trying not to hurl over it. If anything it should have been about Harry and Ted. Hello? Harry was given the opportunity to give Ted the life with his godfather that was stolen from Harry himself. It even alludes to this earlier; O, what a shame I will die, I can't be with Ted just like Sirius can't be w/me. Ideally of course it would have been about Harry and Draco and their recklessly rough sex keeping poor Ted awake.
...What?
4) Despite all the people that die in the book, is it weird I only started tearing up at seeing Sirius again, for a brief second? I have a strange fixation. XD
I had so much stuff I was going to rant about, but I'm getting quickly derailed by silly and random things, so, on to the movie.
OMG. I liked it more than I thought I would. o.o; Given, I figured I'd hate it, so it doesn't say much.
Umbridge is too pretty. I did not see the "toad" resemblance. She was adorable.
Luna needs to be more peevy, otherwise she was spot on.
Ralph Fiennes needs to come live in my house.. with Jason Isaacs and Alan Rickman. :P And Dan and Tom. And they all lived sexily happily evar aftar.
Was surprised to find that I actually love Tonks. o_o Her hair should be shorter, though. (Yes, most of my gripes are these silly little things-- like James' BROWN hair that should be BLACK, pick up some goddamn hair dye, people! JK doesn't describe people often, so when she does, PAY ATTENTION! This is also my gripe with former cast-picks, such as Lupin, who should obviously be attractive and NOT that talentless old hideous git from Dragonheart.)
I feel like there was some random magic-doing that didn't make sense, but I can't remember it. o.o I just remember thinking, "Um, there's not a spell for that."
Dayum, Harry's filling out like no one's business.
Also, there was more I wanted to say for the movie, as well, but I'm getting tired. :P
My bottom line for the movies: They are fantastic as eye candy, if you want a visual companion while reading the books. Great supplements. However, I feel like they're going downhill, and don't stand alone well as movies, nor do they portray the storyline properly. I think that if I hadn't read the books, I'd've been completely and utterly lost from PoA on. o.o;
The end. Now pics. Then bed Yay.
