Attn JDP: Sneak Peek of possible Psych story!

“Here at Paranormal Investigations, Incorporated we focus a majority of our energy on disproving hauntings. If there is something we cannot debunk only then do we say it may be a spirit or something else supernatural. So when approach a case we do so from the skeptic’s point of view,” Christi Hanson announced over the television.

“We never want to put a piece of evidence out there that will discredit ourselves, our investigators, or out clients. So every piece of evidence that you see on this show has been thoroughly examined and tested. If we can recreate the phenomenon that we captured by means of common sense or physical experiments then we do not call it evidence of a haunting,” Joe Hanson continued from his seat beside his sister.

The screen transitioned to show four people seated at a table filled with computers, portable DVD players, hand held electronic recorders, and small flat screen monitors. It showed them sifting through their investigation footage for anything out of the ordinary. The investigators would stop every now and then and share evidence that they discovered.

“This show is so fake,” Shawn exclaimed as he stared up at the television.

“Ironic that you’re accusing something of being fake,” Gus told him with a quirked eyebrow.

“Yes, but my situation is different. This is the only way I can use my ‘special gifts’ Christi and Joe are just out for the money. I mean come on, they weren’t this interested in the ‘paranormal’ in high school,” Shawn said.

“Maybe this is something that happened after high school,” Gus suggested.

“Well, it would have to be, Gus, if it didn’t happen when were in high school,” Shawn deadpanned.

Gus gave him an annoyed glare, “I think you’re still holding a grudge because she ditched you at junior prom.”

“She did not ditch me…I ditched her…”

“Uh huh, and that’s why you punched the guy she was dancing with after you ditched her. Makes perfect sense,” Gus said as he rolled his eyes.

“Yes, yes it does. I’m glad you admit it,” Shawn said offhandedly. “Why are we watching this again?”

“They’re doing their live Halloween show at Wispy Sunny Pines in a couple of days,” Gus told him. “Supernatural TV is doing a two day viewer’s choice marathon to promote it. I want to see if my choices won.”

“Your…choices? You mean you actually watch this show? On a regular basis?” Shawn asked.

“It’s very entertaining and informative. Thanks to Paranormal investigators I figured out why I felt like someone was watching me in my basement as a kid.”

“I could answer that one for you. The boogeyman was hiding in your furnace,” Shawn answered.

“No. My basement was covered in exposed wiring which causes high EMF levels, and high EMF levels can cause Paranoia, skin irritation, hallucinations, headaches…”

“Ghost fever, Small Pox, webbing of fingers and toes, and last but certainly not least…it was the magic behind Frosty the Snowman’s enchanted hat,” Shawn interrupted.

“This is serious, Shawn,” Gus said indignantly.

“Oh, I am extremely serious…fatally serious even because Frosty came to life one day, and the children say he could laugh and play-“

Gus groaned and turned away.

“What? Was it something I said?”

“Okay, how’s the set up coming?” Christi asked as she put in her change and grabbed a paper out of the machine.

“Fine, they started unloading all of the equipment today. They’re setting up the interaction center as we speak,” Joe told her.

“Good, last year Josh had to vamp for a whole 5 minutes because they weren’t finished setting it up,” Christi said sternly.

“Yes, I know. I was there,” Joe said as he rolled his eyes. Sometimes Christi acted as if she were the only one involved in this business. Christi unfolded her paper and was greeted with a large picture of two of her old high school friends.

“No way,” She said in shock.

“What?” Her brother asked.

“Since when is Shawn Spencer a psychic?” She asked to no one as she showed her brother the headline.

“Local Psychic Helps Bring Down Drug Ring,” Joe read aloud. “Is that Gus with him?”

“Probably, those two went everywhere together,” She told him.

“Yeah, but he looks so different,” Joe told her. “Hey, maybe we should have them as guest investigators! Our fans would love to see a psychic on the show!”

Her first instinct was to say no, but as she thought about it she realized that it would be great for ratings and for their fan base in the area.

“Okay, we’ll have Jillian track them down,” She agreed with a nod.

“I’ll call her right now,” He said.

“Tell her to set up a lunch meeting so we can discuss it with them face to face,” She commanded as they both continued to stroll down the street. “And tell her to inform Derek. Make sure he uses the whole ‘old high school pals’ angle in the press release. A past connection to Shawn and Gus will bode well for us and the show.”

“You done?” Joe asked her sarcastically as he pulled out his phone.

“Just make the call, jerk,” She said with a chuckle.

He bowed mockingly, “Yes, your majesty.”

“I swear being an Executive producer is hard work,” Christi said as she stepped into a local diner.

“Oh my God! It’s Christi Hanson!” A voice yelled enthusiastically. Her eyes widened and she turned to head back out the door when a body whipped around her and blocked the door.

“I’m a huge fan!” A blonde woman exclaimed. “Would you sign my newspaper?”

Christi flashed her a bright fake smile, “Sure.”

The woman handed her a pen and the paper, and Christi quickly accepted it and prepared to sign.

“Who should I make this out to?” She asked.

“Juliet,” She answered nervously. “Or Jules…my friends call me Jules.”

“Okay, Jules,” She said as she signed quickly. “It’s been a pleasure meeting you, and I hope you tune into our live special day after tomorrow.”

“Oh, totally. I’ll be online with my mouse hovering over the panic button all night long,” She said.

“I’ll be on the lookout for your alerts then,” She told her as she handed back the paper. Christi approached the counter and ordered a turkey melt sub to go. Juliet sat down on the other side of her and pretended to be casual. Out of the corner of her eye she could see Juliet discretely glancing at her every so often.

“You know…Wispy Pines isn’t really haunted,” Juliet informed her. “Turns out Scary Sherry never actually jumped. It’s all urban legend.”

“Oh really?” Christi asked with a knowing smirk. “What about that Doreen girl that fell from room 413 a couple of years ago?”

“Oh, well…yes that actually happened,” Juliet said with a nod.

“We were told her spirit went after the sorority sisters who lured her there,” Christi said as she tucked a strand of red hair behind her ear.

“Actually it was her best friend that did that. She tried to kill me, and then my partner and I arrested her,” Juliet said honestly.

“Oh,” Christi said in disappointment. “Well, that makes the place less interesting. So, you’ve never experienced anything there that can’t be explained?”

“No,” She replied.

Christi’s brow furrowed, “I don’t understand…the local Santa Barbara team gave us some pretty solid evidence. We had it analyzed and everything. We even made them do two investigations.”

Juliet shrugged, “Maybe it’s not Doreen haunting Wispy Pines. I mean a lot of people were treated there I’m sure more than a few died there.”

“Something better be haunting that building. We need the ratings,” Christi sighed. "Wait, did you say you and your partner?"

Juliet nodded, "Detective O'Hara, SBPD at your service. We actually had help from a psychic on that case."

Christi's eyes widened," Was that psychic Shawn Spencer?"

"Yes! Do you know him?"

"He was my junior prom date, actually," She said with a roll of her eyes. "He spent the entire night checking out my brother's date. I ended up spending the rest of the night with the Prom King though...so you could say it all turned out for the best."

"Until Shawn knocked him to the ground, and got us all kicked out," Joe said as he stepped up behind his sister and Juliet. "Jillian's calling their office as we speak."

"Perfect! Joe this is Detective O'Hara. Detective this is-"

"Your brother and co-host. I am your biggest fan," Jules said to Joe in awe. She peered closely at his shaved head, "Wow, there really is no hair on your head. I thought maybe the camera just wasn't picking them up, but you really are completely bald...voluntarily of course."

He smiled at her in amusement, "Of course."

"Quick question," Juliet said as she turned on her stool to face him. "Can you bowl?"

He quirked an eyebrow at her, "Bowl? I suppose. I wouldn't say I'm a pro or anything but I manage to  break two hundred. Why?"

She shrugged and grinned cheekily, "No reason. Would you sign my newspaper?"
