To want
verb in plain becomes verb in ます[masu] - take ます[masu] and add たい[tai]
e.g. 行く[iku] becomes 行きます[ikimasu] which becomes 行きたい[ikitai]
end with ます[masu] or と思います[toomoimasu]
Negative - don’t want.
~ たい[tai] becomes [takunai] (treat them like い[i] adjs)
Past - want.
~ たい[tai] becomes たかった[takatta]
Negative Past - didn’t want.
~たい[tai] becomes たくなかった[takunakatta]
Using から[kara] and 前[mae]
After doing something
Verb 1 in て[te] form から[kara] verb 2 です[desu]
= After verb 1, I verb 2.
eg. ビズケットを食べてから、テレビを見ます。[bizuketto o tabete kara, terebi o mimasu]
After eating biscuits, I watch TV.
Before doing something
Verb in plain form 前に[mae ni] verb 2 ます[masu] (or other ending)
= Before verb 1, I verb 2.
Eg. テレビを見る前にビズケットをたべたい。[terebi o miru mae ni bizuketto o tabetai.]
Before watching TV, I want to eat biscuits.
After doing something, before doing
- apply the same rules as above
eg. そつぎょうしてから、大学に行く前に日本に行きたいです。[sotsugyou shite kara, daigaku ni iku mae ni nihon ni ikitaidesu]
After I graduate, before I go to university I want to go to Japan.
