I read with great interest an article in The Straits Times last week over my subway sandwich about how teachers should be paid more than bankers. Because after all, if not for teachers, we wouldn't have bankers or lawyers or doctors in the future.
My sentiment is that it is not about the dollar you take home. You wanna get rich? Be an entrepreneur, a businessman.
Teaching is about the passion you have for your job, the knowledge you want your students to have and the kind of people you would like to see them become in the future. The country's entire future rests on our tiny hands. Isn't that heavy responsibility? It is for this reason that I believe the best teachers should teach the weakest students because they need it most.
To my fellow comrades who shape the hearts and minds of our young,
Happy Teachers' Day!
