hong kong in a nutshell

Our Hong Kong trip was a very short one, we did a little bit of everything. Shopping, sightseeing and eating. On the morning of day one, we took the MTR to Causeway Bay, their city area and had morning dim sum at Chung's Cuisine at Times Square.

In the afternoon we took the MTR to Central and walked to the Peak Tram Station. We did the touristy Madam Tussauds and had a hell of a time posing like idiots. I told the mister there is no way we're standing next to celebrity wax figures smiling like tourists. Afterward we spent the evening watching the sunset at Victoria Peak and had a relaxing dinner with a great view.

I love the rustic feel of street side shops and neon signboards. 7-eleven and Watsons are at every street corner. I love their dim sum, roast duck and wonton noodles. Maxim's, a cake shop at every MTR station has the best neapolitan cake ever! We bought a couple of boxes of mooncakes and wife cakes for our loved ones from there as well.

And here's a little joke. I asked the hotel staff if she could tell me where I could get good mooncakes from and she asked me if I knew what they looked like! It's an honest question of course, but I couldn't help thinking about the boxes of durian mooncakes, chocolate truffle mooncakes, ice-cream mooncakes and of course the traditional lotus seed paste with yoke mooncakes I devour every single year. I love my mooncakes don't I?

On day 2, we spent the entire day at Tsim Sha Tsui area.

At the end of 2 days, I didn't buy as much clothes as everyone predicted I would. I bought a lovely blue skirt from A.P.C, a dress from Sogo, some blouses from Espirit and Swedish store H&M, a pair of shoes and a bag. All in all, just 7 items. Yes, I lost my mojo.

Upon departing Hong Kong, I was at the airport passing through immigration to the departure hall when I laid eyes upon the Hong Kong Disneyland shop. And just when I thought I didn't spend all my Hong Kong dollars finish. This store completely wiped my wallet empty. I bought Disney Princess water bottles, cups, t-shirts, bags, toys for Andrea and Mickey Mouse water bottles, cups, thermos flask, bags, biscuits for Marie. And a gift for a 4 year old's birthday next weekend.

I know my husband and I would love Disneyland. We would sit on any death defying ride any day and equally enjoy any other ride. In one word I could sum up how Disneyland would be like for us - magical. But I cannot bring myself to visit Disneyland without my girls. I know without having been there before, that both my girls would love Disneyland just as much as we would. It would just be wrong to go there without my tots. Well, at least I know where our next holiday destination will be.

With Mickey and Minnie - Marie's absolute favourite.
