*Getting a head start*

Al Capone

Al Capone is America's best known gangster and the single greatest symbol of the collapse of law and order in the United States during the 1920s Prohibition era. Capone had a leading role in the illegal activities that lent Chicago its reputation as a lawless city.

Cool.

Yeah it's interesting, real gorey things happened back in the twenties, then again I guess taking someones booze away would put their knickers in a twist yeah?

*shrugs* I don't know. Some people manage to give it up on their own. Though I suppose having it forcibly taken away wouldn't go over too well.

*looks through some of the other books* Anything more contemporary?

Cotemporary? Hmmm, not sure really, all I could find was books about the twenties and a couple of things on mobsters in England.

*rummages through pile* Those sound promising. I'm not sure Professor Weasley will want us doing a dead subculture.

*picks up copy of The Godfather and examines it* At least we'll have the historical background covered.

Ah yes the Godfather, very dirty business in that book oh yes, it's fictional book but based on an era in which thing like this were actually happening. I mean even now the idea of Organized crime is still around you have criminals living like kings and have probably whacked a couple of hundred guys, it's corrupt that even politicians have been know to get into the act. Would you like me to tell you what it's about? *beams*

*a little taken aback by Angie's enthusiasm* S-sure.

I didn't know you were so interested in all of this.

angelina_ic November 13 2005, 02:00:11 UTC
Well I wasn't really interested at first, it kind of grows on you after awhile, the adventure of it all, danger, granted the whole mass killings and the drug trafficking isn't the greatest part, but sometimes the bad guys are kind of cool.

So anyway here's the summery:
The Godfather is the story of organized crime in the 1940's which revolves around the Corleone family. Don Vito Corleone is the head of a New York Mafia "family". Problems arise when a gangster supported by another Mafia family, Solozzo, announces his intentions to start selling drugs all over New York. Don Vito hates the idea of drugs as he is quite happy with his hotel and gambling business. Don is shot by Solozzo's men. Solozzo then kidnaps one of Don's advisors, Tom Hagen and tries to make him force Don's eldest son, Sonny to agree to sell drugs, but the plan goes wrong when Sollozzo finds out that Don Corleone is still alive.

((And I am sad to say that I have yet to see this movie all the way through))

((It's okay. I've seen maybe five minutes. People don't seem to realize that yelling at me to go see it only makes me less inclined to do so.))

*wide-eyed*

...How much of this do you think we'll need for the presentation?

Enough to explain the purpose of the subculture and it's effect on the muggle world?

Oh, right. Sounds good. Why don't you handle that part of the presentation, and I'll...what do you think I should do?
