Winter Carnival - Piratey Goodness

Dec 11, 2006 10:01

So it seems we all survived the carnival intact. The parade itself was fantastic looking going by the shots we saw of it on TV. Dale is now officially a TV star! Must watch the news tonight just in case they do a longer showcase on the parade than the BBC and UTV did yesterday. It was only a one second shot but it was definitely Dale spinning fire! Proud of ya honey - you represented Firepoise very well!

Final show was fantastic. Fire dancers lead the drummers round and we congregated towards the stage area as we waited for Doo-Doo (or Do-Do, I can't remember) to do his drumming solo and then lead the drummers. Unfortunately plans changed at the very last minute and we had to improvise quick. It seemed to have gone off well enough though despite that. Fireworks were awesome and it was kind of hard not to flinch being so close to them as I was Durbs's fire safety for the night. Though I don't miss the smoke and ash!

One huge highlight of the night (apart from our fantastic fire performers of course) were the circus boys from Cork. They had this huge dragon skeleton that they carried through the parade and then into Custom House Square where they did a whole voodoo dance routine with it. It was amazing though unfortunately it seemed their performance was cut short by the last minute changes. It sucks, but that's showbiz.

Altogether it was an awesome night, everyone looked cool in their costumes and we had a fantastic night partying afterwards.

I think I managed to drag myself back into bed about 24 hours after I got up on Saturday morning! Needless to say Sunday was a very lazy and sore day for the two of us. Sweet.
