Scoliosis

I was researching scoliosis a bit online and found this excerpt on Wikipedia's entry for scoliosis:

"The most notable limitation of spinal fusions is that patients who have undergone surgery for scoliosis are ineligible for military service in the United States."

Whyyyyy would you ever want to do that?

I mean, maybe in a non-combat role, but fuck being sent off to aid in the death of people when you're not even entirely sure they're wrong. Or when it's a fight we don't belong in. Or any other number of stupid-ass things that get people killed for pointless reasons.

Come on now, you should know me better than that! :) I've always been a .. fan of the military, I guess you could say. I really feel like the structure of the military would be hugely beneficial to my growth as a person. I was never planning on being a "grunt", in any case. My preference would be AIr Force or Navy, working with aircraft of some sort, or possibly intelligence/counter-intelligence. It's the sort of thing that makes me tear up whenever I think about how I can't have it. I've wanted to be in the military since I was a kid (and my dad had little to do with this), and that hasn't lessened as I've gotten older.

I get that. I entertained thoughts of Navy service myself several times (the notion of commanding my own ship was enormously appealing). I can't conscientiously do it now, though -- the idea that I might be called in to fight/support fighting a war that I not only don't believe in, but actively oppose, is revolting to me.

See, is it bad that I don't feel strongly for or against the war? I feel like I should, but it's just not one of those things I can bring myself to care about.
