Even though he had said that he was perfectly fine with Buffy dating that other guy, he knew, deep down, that it wasn’t true. Even when he tried seeing someone else, he realized that he’d ALWAYS feel some sort of possessiveness over her. She was the first person that he’d ever loved. He knew that it was a bad idea to still harbor feelings for her. When they were together, nothing good ever seemed to come of it. There was soul losing and all sorts of awful things that might happen.
Plus, now he had Cordy, and the guarantee that he wouldn’t lose his soul if he was with her. He should be happy. In most ways, he WAS happy with it. However, every time he saw her with that kid he wanted to grab Rain by the neck and strangle the life out of him. She could just…he felt like she could do so much better. He knew that he was going to feel that way about anyone she dated, though. Anyone who wasn’t him. He had said that she should move on, though. So, for now, the only thing he could do was admire from afar, even as he was with someone else.
