Is there anything of note regarding the date or month that anyone is aware of in relation to the city? Something like this seems unlikely to be an accident or a mistake.
There must be some kind of reason as to 'why now', even if it's simply a case of they were unable to before. Something must have changed to make this possible. Maybe the scientists are losing control over...
