“Most people, even though they don’t know it, are asleep. … They never understand the loveliness and the beauty of this thing that we call human existence.” - Father Anthony de Mello
Sunday marked the 75th birthday of one of Sydney’s most famous icons, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, or the ‘coathanger’ as it is sometimes referred to. Thousands flocked to the city to walk across the famous bridge, to celebrate its longevity and magnitude. My family and I stayed home and watched it on the news. It sure would’ve been cool to walk across the bridge with my family though, but my dad is not one to care about such things.
It amazes me how much this bridge has accomplished. Apparently it was only made to last 75 years, but it still looks incredibly sturdy. I read an interesting article on the
Sydney Morning Herald site about how the bridge has managed to divide Sydney into its social classes rather than unite us, as was the original plan. Unfortunately I’ve lost the link to the article, but it was quite an interesting read. It talked about the location of Sydney’s residents in relation to the bridge.
In other news, I’ve been trying unsuccessfully fix up my site lately. It just looks like a huge mess at the moment. No matter what I do, it doesn’t come out the way I want it to. I also need to validate my coding. It’s quite misleading to state that I have valid XHTML coding in the sidebar when I don’t, so I apologise. The link is from the original layout that I used to make this layout. I’ve also been downloading a few plugins. Those are always fun to install. Do any of you fellow Wordpress users have any cool plugins to recommend for me?
