How to make Screencaps in PowerDVD

Aug 28, 2005 11:10

This is a tutorial I have put together for the benefit of anyone who is unsure how to configure their powerDVD player to make pretty screencaps. I am working with PowerDVD version 6, but it should be the same for earlier versions. If you are a total novice, you need to read the instructions carefully

Tutorial under the cut. Image heavyish...

Step 1: Which is pretty obvious...you insert the disc you want to cap and open your power dvd program (sometimes it opens up automatically)

The view should look something like this:

Before you make any screencaps, you first need to check that it is configured correctly or you will end up with squashed screencaps like this:

Not pretty, and screencaps with the wrong ratio don't make pretty graphics...

Step 2: Configuration

You need to select the button that looks like little tiny tools...aww. Sorry getting carried away there!

When you have done that, you should be seeing something like this:

Select the advanced options:

then you should get another pop-up menu that looks like this: Make sure you have selected the snapshot tab at the top.

You need to have somewhere for your screencaps to go, or you will lose where they are. select capture to file I made myself a file and just called it Screencaps. Browse for the file you have made and make it the file path for your caps to go into. Check my settings for example on the pic, you are not sure.

Then move futher down the menu to captured aspect ratio

Select current video window size and keep aspect ratio then press OK Your player should now be configured to make the screencaps.

Now for the really easy bit. Play your dvd that you want to cap.Find the button that looks like a camera. That's the button that takes the pics.

Sometimes to get a pic exactly where I want it, I pause the movie where I want the image from. It saves making lots of unessesary screencaps. The caps are automatically made into Bitmaps. You might want to convert them into JPegs in your art program to reduce file size, but hopefully at the end of it all you will have a screencap that looks like this.

Anything or question, or things you are not clear on, just ask. I hope at least some of this made sense. It's my first tutorial so go easy on me.
