Mini Tutorial (Beginner) basic cropping

Jan 24, 2006 10:48

I have put together a mini-tutorial on basic cropping. This is mainly for illustration purposes for a forum I mod on and to hopefully help a friend :)Cropping Tutorial for Photoshop CS2. It should be easily transferable for earlier versions. After all we didnt all start out as Photoshop experts lol (not that I am one either!)

First I go to file>new

then the pop up box in the image shows up. I set it to 100x100 pixels, if you just follow my settings.

Click for bigger images :D

This will then create a 100x100px base for your icon

The open the image you want to use: I usually have the cropping tool set to 200x200 px depending on the image. But you can resize the base once cropped if you want it a bit smaller. You can see all my settings on here :

Then I then select the cropping tool and it should then look something like this.

I then right click in the bounding box and select crop:

so then we are left with a 200x200px image. I then go to select>all (It might be a bit different depending on the version of photoshop you are using)

now using the move tool, drag layer A to B until you have something like this.

Your icon will be a perfect 100x100px image. Cropping the image you want to use to 200x200px is just a guideline, you may need to crop it bigger or smaller, but if you are pasting it into that 100x100 base image, then you cant go wrong :)
