I was on my bus home from work tonight around 830pm and there were a few people dressed as zombies gathered at the front. I thought it seemed a little early for dress-up but figured the people were off to a pre-halloween party or something. Then I saw around 500 or more zombies in a HUGE parade down Portage heading toward Osborne Village (which I learned after asking one of the zombies leaving my transfer bus downtown...after he hissed menacingly at me), many of whom launched themselves at the windows of my bus while we waited at red lights.
Thoroughly confused at this huge gathering of people with white faces, dark circles beneath their eyes and tattered clothing, I googled "Zombies + Winnipeg" when I got home tonight. I have learned that Winnipeg has not been over-run by the undead but rather my fellow citizens were participating in the 3rd annual
ZOMBIE WALK. Who knew? O_o
This gathering of the undead apparently has no purpose aside from painting the faces of everyone from a 3 year old girl (yes! three years old!!! I would have been terrified if my parents had dressed me up and made me walk around at night with hundreds of other people who looked like they had just crawled out of their own graves after 40 years in the dirt!!) to adults walking around trying to shock people by their sudden surge into traffic.
Happy pre-Halloween folks. ^_^;
