Have I mentioned that every day is an adventure? Yeah...it is.
Today I had another lovely taxi driver encounter. I was forced to take a taxi from school because it was pouring. Unfortunately, Shannon had her dance class so I went alone, and of course, there was lots of traffic ensuring that I get a large amount of time with my new admirer.
The taxi driver started innocently enough...but now I have learned that if any Taxco native says "oh, you speak spanish very well" you should either run, or start speaking a whole lot worse. To make a long story short, this taxi driver wanted me to move in with him, stay for a year, and then marry him and live in Mexico for the rest of my life. What could be better, I ask you? That would be the fact that he was quite enamored with my legs and told me SEVERAL times how beautiful they were. In fact, when I told him that was a conversation I wished not to pursue, he was astounded at the idea that I might not like my legs and spent several minutes trying to convince me of their perfection.
If he had been 20 years younger, lived in the United States, and had a lucrative career, we might have had something. Alas, I will just have to move on knowing that it could never be. I won´t, by the way, be taking any taxi´s alone any longer. I was, however, very calm the entire time and played most of it off as a joke, but I was VERY very happy when I reached home. (I wonder if it is bad that he knows where I live. When I told him I would be leaving soon, he told me that there was nothing wrong with having a fling. I may live in fear for my last 5 days in Taxco.)
On a very different note, we are making brownies from scratch tonight. We were asked to make American food for a cultural fair tomorrow, and finding American ingredients in a Mexican mountain town has been amusing. In any case, I´ll let you know how they turn out.
Oh, and if anyone wants to be my best friend in the world you may burn me a CD (or two, I have a list of 22 songs) when I return because I am trying desperately to make a soundtrack of my summer. We had our internet boy make one, but he didn´t concentrate too hard on quality. So yes, I´ll be looking for help with that and offering rewards.
