I fell asleep there on the bed of Lilah's imaginary guest room, utterly surprised that I could sleep at all. But the moment I collapsed onto the mattress, it was like a deadweight slammed into me, and before I knew what was happening I'd literally passed out. I felt good, to let my body sink into the bedding as my eyes sank shut. Despite all that was happening to me, it was good that I still had this.
And then I woke up. It was so odd, it felt like I'd only been sleeping for a moment. But apparently I hadn't, because I was now awake and standing in front of the open door to Lilah's apartment.
Hey, we got out! They're letting us go! was my first thought, a wide smile breaking out across my face. I wasn't sure why, but at this point I could have cared less. Apparently we'd been free for quite some time, because Lilah was already outside the door in the hallway, speaking to someone else, someone in a business suit. I didn't recognize him, but then again I hadn't recognized anyone save for Eve since I'd come back. Lilah signed something on a clipboard, and I took a step closer to her, rather cautiously.
"Looks like we're free" I said to her, a bit lamely, not quite sure what to say. I wasn't sure if I'd ever see this Lilah woman again, but I wished I'd gotten more time to talk to her. She seemed to hold a lot of answers to my past that I was so desperately seeking. Mainly, where to find Lorne.
I was disheveled and bleary-eyed, I knew. But it didn't matter to me anymore because the games were over and we were free and life was sweet. Especially after having seen and known death.
Not that I could remember it. But then, I couldn't really remember anything.
