This is very exciting! I remember going to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science with my Mammalogy class last year and seeing a "Louisiana Birds" exhibit, and they had models of these two beautiful birds that were said to have been extinct since the early 20th century. One was this gorgeous cockatiel (except spelled in some Cajun-ish way, like coquetiel or something) and the other was the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. My mammalogy teacher actually specializes as a bird biologist and I remember talking to him about it and feeling rather sad. I saw the link on cnn.com today about a woodpecker and I clicked wondering if perhaps it was the Ivory-billed, and it was!
