So.
The visa-applying went well. I got up at 6:30 at Beloit, picked up my police report at 8:00 sharp, and then drove to Chicago. There was a miraculous lack of traffic, and I got there by 10:15. Dad met me there and we got to the Consulate early. Turns out, I'm not really sure what the appointment was for. The Consulate consisted of this woman at a desk, and some chairs for waiting. Immediately after we got there, she called me up, browsed through all my stuff, and told me that I only needed a visa for six months, since you can stay for 90 days after it expires as a tourist. This is good, because less-than-six-month visas don't take nearly as long to process. So I should definitely have it by the 16th, my intended departure date. She also gave back my police reports because you don't need them if you're only staying for six months.
Then I wandered up and down Michigan ave. for two hours. I tried on evening dresses at Saks; that was fun. At 1:00 I had my interview for Scripps. It went OK. I don't think I said anything too atrocious, and she was nice.
Then I decided to go home, and it became an adventure. I realized that I had forgotten to MapQuest directions from Michigan to home, so I called my mom, who told me that I should just drive down Michigan and I would see signs to the highway. So I did that for a while, but I got to the south side and still no highway, so I called again. She gave me some alternate directions, and I found the highway, but I drove all the way to Indiana without finding the exit I needed. So I turned and drove back to Chicago, still no exit, and then back again. It turns out that there's a huge difference between the Dan Ryan skyway and the Dan Ryan expressway, namely, the skyway charges you three dollars and has no exits. So after about two hours, I finally left Chicago. I had to stop and get some Red Bull, which will forever remind me of Constitutional Law. I listened to "Changes" ten times trying to learn all of the words. I was half successful. I now know what he's saying 95% of the time, but I can only sing (rap?) about half of it with him.
By the time I got home I was exhausted, so I ate dinner and immediately fell asleep. For 12 hours. Now: I need to write my "Why Scripps" essay so that I have some new things to show to Lisa today.
