Facebook has all kinds of behind the scenes stuff going on to decide what pops up on the friends feed. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem great at differentiating between "trainwreck" clicks (because they make me frustrated or elicit schadenfreude) and "actually friends" clicks (because I care about the person and/or am interested in the content).
As a consequence my friends feed has devolved into a 50/50 mix of people I like and people ranting about gun control and Bernie Sanders. C'est la vie.
I spent a solid six months off of facebook, and it had perks, but there's no denying that facebook is past critical mass. I've had too many positive interactions exclusively because I glance at facebook now and then to cut the cord entirely.
