So over the last few weeks...
Easter: I became godmother for the 4th time to Jasmine May, my friend Ange's daughter. And my brother took a surprise flight down to Tassie to propose to Lisa (with a 1.5 carat ROCK of a ring) while she was down there visiting her family :) The wedding is in 2 months! They certainly take the award for quickest engagement. The other exciting news is that she's pregnant & I'm due to get a new niece/nephew in November :))) Ty is most excited at the prospect of a new cousin. I have also been asked to be bridesmaid, which I think gives me the award for 'Most Times One Can Be A Bridesmaid In One Year' - between January to October of this year I am bridesmaid for four weddings :D So my whole family is in massive rush mode because not only is there a wedding in 2 months but they decided last week (out of the blue) to have the wedding in Tasmania. And they both live here in Sydney so it's a helluva deal to organise, what with 80 guests flying over from Sydney. So far everything is just falling into place, God's hand is certainly on it & everything is coming on great, the bride/mother-to-be is surprisingly unstressed! It appears like a shotgun wedding but Matt had actually planned the engagement long ago, admittedly his original wedding date was to be Dec 31 & it's been brought forward but other than that it's all as it was meant to be.
Weekend before last we had a Family Holiday with my friends & their families up at Terrigal, it was a beautiful sunny weekend & we had a great, though somewhat emotional weekend. Each of us, me, Mel, Nic & now Karen, are all seeing Mark so that always makes for a fun weekend, haha. What was great though was the amount of loyal support & bonding we girls shared over the weekend, lots of laughing, crying, & general emotional release - the boys stayed well away from us haha & cooked their barbies etc. The kids (10 of them in total) were so wrapped up in their fun they didn't notice their emo mums so all was good ;) Nickers & Chris came up with baby Kaylee on Saturday & it was good to catch up with them too. It's funny seeing your old mates when they've become new parents... life changes so quickly!
Sarah has a new round of gigs coming up, yeeha I really need the musical release, can't wait for Wednesday night! Oh yeah & Wed after next I've been asked to be a Guest Speaker for the Auslan Student Presentation Night, my ex-teacher asked me to do it, she says I was her best student ever & she thought I would be a great inspiration for other students, what an honour :)
Jake & Sandra's wedding was 2 weeks ago, was a great night. My whole family was invited & both my brothers were his best men. Of all ppl to bump into there, was this new cute Deaf guy I met at TAFE only the week before, had been thinking a bit about him through the week & then bang, there he is... turns out to be Jake's childhood neighbour who Jake had talked about before, & it turns out to be Cute Deaf Boy from TAFE! His name is Jay. He grew up oral so actually has a remarkably clear speaking voice but signs really beautifully as well. I ended up interpreting speeches for him, was so nervous I shook. I apologised at the end for the shit job but he promised me it was fine & thanked me for helping out, which was very sweet coz I really did SUCK. I haven't seen him since unfortunately, have been keeping an eye out for him at TAFE but no luck yet. He's too young of course (25) but he's just so cute.
Had an awful though good session at Mark on Friday.... more memories, more revelations (more shit). But capped the night off beautifully with Craig inviting me out to an invitation only swank party at a club in Kings Cross. Craig is really part of THE social set of Sydney, what's hilarious is he doesn't know it. Going to parties & things with him is always a blast because I get to mingle with the rich & famous for a night & have the time of my life before returning to my world. Friday was no exception... went to his new place on Tamarama Beach, divine views etc... his housemate Donna is a model & designer/photographer so I walked into the kitchen & there's photos of her with friends like Collette Dinnigan & 'It' people (read: wankers) like Justin Hemmes (owner of hip/trendy bars like The Establishment & Hemmesphere.) Craig had no idea who they were. He points to one picture & says 'Oh I think this girls somebody, she was here for a dinner party last week.' Leona Edmiston. Ah, yeah Craig, she's 'somebody'. LOL. Then he pays out on me for knowing who everybody is & what they're doing with their lives after I give him the run down on Collette & Richard Wilkins on again/off again relationship, their new baby etc. It was quite funny, we were pissing ourselves laughing in the car as he accused me of being a closet 'Woman's Day' reader.
So the party was being thrown by his friend Raymund, whose boyfriend just won the Archibald Prize this year, & whose sole purpose in life is throwing really great private parties every weekend in different locations. I said to him that night, please if you ever get bored with your 'job'.... ;o The theme for the night was Studio 54, that cool nightclub in New York which was the place to be in the 70's. So I got dolled up in my one piece Gerry Shaw designer catsuit that I bought for a LOT of money a long time ago when I was rich, & which I have no excuse to wear anymore except to Studio 54-themed nightclubs, & donned my false eyelashes & we hit the town with Pete & Grant in tow, Craig's best mates who I love & they love me... it was the perfect antidote to my session with Mark, going out for a wild night on the town with 3 men who are not only beautiful, smart, rich & classy as classy can be, but who are caring, loving & respectful towards me, who always make me feel as rich & classy & beautiful as them without sleazing in the slightest. They are very very rare men & I feel so lucky to know them :) We left Craig's place & met the boys over at Grant's new terracehouse in the city, his place is so gorgeous & arty & so Grant. Before here he lived in the burbs, & owned this mansion in Glen Regent Estate where he used to have the wildest parties with the most outrageous excesses, the best catering, the best DJ's, the best lighting etc. Going to a party at Grant's was always a blast. He's 33, the world's best bachelor really. He owns a number of businesses, including a laser hair removal clinic chain, & he is just so passionate about managing people, & cars. He has heaps of them (cars & staff to manage!)
So we got to Grants & the boys all wowed & whistled over my outfit, then we headed to the private club in Darlinghurst where you don't get in unless your name's on the door. Inside was spectacular. It was a gorgeous little Spanish club, decked out in bohemian themes... A man wandering around doing random body art on people who would just strip off & let him... a statue in white that turned out to be a real man who posed as this statue for the entire party, though he did lean down to kiss my hand for a photo opportunity! Hats & costumes lying around for people to don at their whim, & beautiful people, tragic people, everywhere... lots of waif thin models, famous actors, designers... I was trying not to be uncool, haha, was actually mixing right in as Craig introduced me to heaps of ppl but I blew my cover somewhat when actor Steve Bastoni <3 took my seat. I went to sit down where I had previously been sitting with my boys & due to the dim lighting didn't realise it wasn't my boys til I got there, so I've gone 'Oh! Hello! Sorry I thought you were my friends.' To which Steve goes 'We are your friends.. wow look at you in that sexy catsuit, what a fantastic outfit, blah blah' then he asked my name & I shook his hand & said 'Amanda' & he said 'Hi Amanda I'm Steve' & I said (now wait for it--) 'Yes I know who you are.' WHAT A WANKER. I just couldn't help it, he was too cute, I had such a crush on him a while back. I was so cool up until that moment, so unfazed abt everyone else...but a famous person that I want to IMPRESS.... & I turn into bloody Muriel.
After that I lost myself on the dance floor with everybody, & that was just such crazy fun. The DJ paused to let some Spanish dudes crack the bongos & we had a little tribal dance frenzy going on, I could have stripped off & no-one would have noticed. The atmosphere was electric, pumping, Grant looked like he'd gone to hippy heaven & Craig was floating all around the room getting love from everyone who knew him. I closed my eyes smiling & dancing with complete strangers & this guy randomly jumped in with a big wet glitter paintbrush & painted a long cool wet stroke down my arm that glittered intensely & felt so refreshing after sweating like crazy... it was a top ending to a downer day.
Saturday I returned to reality by getting up too early & racing around a soccer field with a still-glittered arm waving team sheets & ref fees at the other amused mums on the team ;P Then I went bridal shopping with Lisa & we got her wedding dress! Faf met me at Mass & we spent the night at Nics with Mel & Nat over a BBQ dinner. Got home with the tired sillies after putting Ty to bed & was PMSL at Faf's scarily accurate impersonation of the giant turtle from NeverEnding Story.
Sunday we drove down to the 'Gong to visit Trish who's over from Adelaide recuperating at her parents after a knee reconstruction. We spent a lazy night on my couch dissing the Logies & taking the piss out of all & sundry.
Today we dropped Tyler off at school & went into Circular Quay to check out Sam Taylor-Wood's latest exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art. On the drive in we spotted a hotted up WRX with Jesus stickers on it... we sped up to catch a look at the driver & it was this HOT as Tongan/Samoan guy who gave me a wicked smile. His car was for sale with a mbl number on the window so we mssgd him 'God bless you, have a great day love from the girls in the Starlet!' He called us & Faf had a conversation with him on the drive in. He was really lovely, really sweet, said he had had a bad morning but our message had really lifted him up & encouraged him & thanked us etc. Faf asked where he was headed to for the day & he said 'Footy training'. Faf (completely clueless) is like 'Oh, who do you play for?' And he said 'The Roosters' & she's like oh the Roosters that's nice... I'm driving & I'm like 'WHAT? The Roosters??! Is he in 1st Grade?!' And he said 'Yeah...' It was Charles Tonga!! I'm like get the hell outta here we're having a conversation with a Hot Christian 1st Grade Roosters player whose built like a brick shit house... how's your luck?! I said to Faf 'Is he single?' And she's like 'What, you can't ask him THAT..' & he's like 'Na, na, what'd she say?!' And she told him & he laughed & said 'I'm not married.' I said 'Ha, so he's not single.' He said 'well... I'm discerning.' Haha, typical Christian wishy washy answer which in translation means 'I'm with a hot chick & she's not Christian & it's breaking my balls.' ;P We messaged backwards & forwards all day, will probably never see him again (at least not until this Sunday on TV) but it was a really great start to a morning ;)
The museum was great, Faf gets a phone call just before we get in 'Hey.... yeah good babe.... oh I'm at a museum in Sydney, fuck I'm classy huh...' pmsl!! The exhibition was great, Crying Men... which included the 'sensual' hour long video portrait of a sleeping David Beckham. I actually found it quite intriguing, trying to ignore Faf whose sitting next to me going 'Hmmm. One hour. HE'S ASLEEP for fucks sake like I need to watch this for 5 more minutes...' The hottest picture was Jude Law, crying in a corner... it had just the right mix of angle, light, reflection & raw emotion to achieve that golden mix of sexy vulnerability.... ahhhhhh <3
We had lunch at Rashay's after the Museum & hung out all afternoon having lots of chats & laughs, great day. Got some photos developed today too...
